Just a rant about My ST limited tool kit.

With a $25,000 machine one would think with the very nice build quality and overall design etc of the Spyder that they would have a much nicer tool kit. I have had MANY motorcycles of far lesser value that looked like the kit was put together by Snap-on compared the one they supply.
A vesper scooter has a better one.....:gaah:

As I see it..!!

The more expensive the less you get..:roflblack: you are expected to have roadside assistance and extended warranties...every see tools in a Rolls Royce..?? :roflblack:

I have owned 7 motorcycles over my riding career....they all came with a tool kit not much unlike what we get with the Spyder. They are pretty much worthless and I pondered for a moment...in 43 years of riding I never had to use the factory supplied tool kit ! When I started some long rides...I stocked my bike (doing same w/Spyder) with my own necessary tools....things I thought I would actually need.

I have a new Dodge Challenger and a Charger...they came with NO tools and cost a lot more than my Spyder.

Why do we even expect to get a tool kit. :dontknow:

Here ya go....see this as a reason to go to Harbor Freight and go shopping ;) and develop a list for gifts from the wifey and give it to her.:doorag::spyder2:

Thats a good excuse to make a trip to the Home Depot Tool coral. Problem is, you might need a trailer to tote all the new tools.:shemademe_smilie:

They do give you some extra empty pockets for whatever free of charge.

Minimum took kit (?) is a common complaint. For non-mechanicals like me, it is not going to help me much for a minor or major repair. I am a bit crippled up and would have difficulty anyway.

There are many "real" tool kits better equipped that can be purchased for under $100 that fit the bill much better. Or--one can stock their own tool kit with whatever they prefer.

I carry the BRP econo kit but have supplemented it with a few other things. Just to keep Murphy off my back.

I am not a mechanic but have some good common sense. I too am getting older and have aches and pains in places they should be and should not be :gaah:... let's face it, as modern/electronic/computer - ized as the Spyder is...I doubt there is much I could diagnose or fix on the side of a Hwy. That is what the towing coverage on my policy is for.

But having a tool kit and a gremlin bell may help keep the evil spirits away !:thumbup::spyder2:

LIKE I SAID JUST A RANT. I HAVE BEEN BUILDING CARS AND BIKES FOR MORE YEARS THAN I CAN REMEMBER. AND AS SAID I TOO HAVE NOT USED A STOCK KIT BUT MAYBE A FEW TIMES. I ALWAYS FOR EVERY BIKE MAKE ONE UP one TO TAKE WHEN I GO on any lONG DISTANCE trips. AFTER THE 600 MILE CHECK ( I'LL GIVE THEM THat one) the Spyder will not see the inside of the dealer unless it is warranty work. It has always made me laugh when I open one is all, many bikes I have never even looked inside the bag.
Hey with the Spyder I could tow my roll away tool box but I think it would exceed the towing capacity.:yikes:

Yikes there is some technology for you.
My phone had a mind of its own with the caps on typing.
Doh.

It looks kinda like the tool kit you would get in a Ski-Doo. I do not see the digital tire pressure gauge though. Did you get one? After doing oil changes, shock replacement, 12 volt outlet install, wiring a gps, comfort seat install, sport fender install, and replacing the brakes all the way around, I have assembled my own tool kit which I take with me on long trips and rallies. One of the most important tools to carry with you is a sharp pocket knife, I have found that to be the most useful thing I carry on several occasions.

Just sayin'...........

Don't feel too bad

This sort of thing is not brand specific.

The BMW I got in 2005 had an ok took kit.
Two years later, they didn't even include the socket to pull the spark plug or a 21mm so you could get the rear tire loose if you needed to adjust the chain.

I guess they figure the phone number to road side assistance should be enough.

Saved me once.

As I posted before:

That little tool kit saved my bacon once. I had some work done on the old 2010 years ago and the dealer (not my current one) didn't plug the radiator fan power in all the way. Things were fine in the cool morning but by 11am the bike was overheating and going into limp mode. I was about 40 miles from home. Once I realized what the problem was, that kit let me pull the Tupperware off and get to the fan power wire so I could ride home.

You would be surprised what that little kit can do for you in a pinch. I have used it in the past a couple times to tighten the mirror / turn signal stalk. (For some reason my left one came loose once in a while). You can use it to strip the bike almost naked to get at whatever you need to on the roadside.

I agree.
One of the first things I removed was that worthless pouch of "tools". The space works nice for a CIG/USB hub to plug things in.

CHEAP

they provide CHEAP TOOLS, because that provide a GREAT MACHINE, and they know that there's a 99.9% chance you'll never need those tools....
i used mine only ONCE in 45,000 miles, and that was to tighten my right hand mirror....

If one expects to do major job on a motorcycle with the provided tool kit you will be greatly disappointed. Loose screw, you can do it...loose nut, you can do it. A loose nut or screw can really put you in a fix if you cannot tighten it. That is why you have a tool kit. And as others have stated, you can, for just a few bucks by what you think you may need on a trip to keep Murphy away. Come on, people. Ride more and complain less. My goodness, life is too short to worry so much about something you have no control over. I have over 600,000 miles on motorcycles and have never needed more than a screwdriver or 10mm wrench. I have driven several trips of over 2,000 miles, my longest being 13,624 miles in 7.5 weeks on our first Spyder, a 2008 GS SE5. What did you buy the Spyder for if not to ride?

I get your drift but.
Like I said it was just a rant, I thought it was funny to see such a sad kit on a big $ machine. I also have may many miles under my arse with 45 + years of riding. 3 round trip cross country trips a Euro alps tour and many many other trips/ride of miles racked up. In no way am I or have I been just a weekend rider.
Have been a car/motorcycle mechanic for 35 years so I certainly dont rely on a tool kit such as this. And serviving cancer the Vietnam war and many other life adventures I know about life being short.
As long as my eyes open from sleep it's a great day
.moving on enjoy your day.

Everyday that we are above ground...riding our Spyder....is a great day !

Enjoy the Summer !

The Honda ST1300 for the last few years that it was available in the US came with a single allen wrench and a a piece of foam. In Canada it had a few more tools but nothing to write home about.
