There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. ISCI handbrake installed.. My review.

First off I have a disability that doesn't allow me any movement of my feet (at the ankles), I wear braces on both ankles and have had no problem riding normal motorcycles, or the spyder. My only issue really was when riding with a passenger if was tough to readjust my foot back on to the peg correctly (after hitting the brake) with out being able to shift my body to bring my leg up. I could manage but stop and go traffic was murder, I loved the idea of a handbrake and have known about the isci setup for a while now, I was just not a big fan of the large price tag.

When I went to spyderfest in cuba I had chance to meet Seth O and after his great review (and he informed me there was a discount for disabled folks) I figured it might be time to re-visit the handbrake idea. So tuesday I placed my order with Jeff @ isci and everything arrived at my shop on friday.

Initial impressions opening the box:
The parts are amazing quality! The welds are amazing, the fabrication is amazing, everything is very high quality. Everything came pre-assembled for the most part and it came with nice step by step instructions.

Installation:
Myself and a friend installed the kit yesterday and I must admit it went much faster than I imagined it would. My spyder has a aerocharger on it which cuts down a lot on space where the handbrake bracket mounts, but even working around the "hot" turbo it only took about an hour and a half. The most time consuming part is bleeding the handbrake system, but none of the install is what I would consider hard. Everything fits exactly how it should (which is rare with aftermarket stuff) and everything makes perfect sense, it shows ISCI spent some serious time engineering this kit.

Road test:
This thing is amazing, I had a chance to ride quite a while last night both 1 and 2up and the brake is everything I hoped for and more! It has a nice firm pull and puts out more than enough stopping force on the brakes, even if you need to panic stop there is no need at all to use the foot brake (which still functions exactly as it did before). Its hard for me to make my brain relearn and not try to use the foot brake, the new handbrake makes riding so much more enjoyable for me, I had no idea what I was missing!

Pros:
Amazing quality
Amazing fit and easy installation
Amazing functionality
Very high quality parts

Cons:
Chrome brake lever (everything else is black, I really wish the lever was black also)

Thanks for an excellent review! :2thumbs: having been a Type I diabetic for too long now, I'm losing strength and feeling in my ankles.
You've now convinced me that ISCI is the way to go for a solution to my pending difficulties...

:2thumbs: I agree, thanks for the review. I am 100% disabled vet and having problems with my legs also, tis why I am now a :spyder2: lover and traded the wing for it. You know, I don't miss the wing at all. Thanks to your review I will definately be looking into the hand brake myself.

I'm glad my review could help! If your on the fence about this mod like I was, I would urge you to pull the trigger. I rode another 50 or so miles today, and it truly is a different animal now.

If your thinking about doing this, do it. You won't regret it, it really is worth the money.

I just need to call and bug Jeff tomorrow for a black lever!! lol.

I am also looking at the hand brake option. However I don't know if I would qualify for a discount :dontknow:. I'll call and see. I crashed my Honda in 1979 and my right foot won't lift due to Sciatic nerve damage and I still have steel rods and pins in my right femur and hip. I have to raise my entire leg to hit the brake and haven't had any major problems, but I would really like the security of the hand brake. Yes it is pricey, but I think worth the investment. Especially since I am considering highway pegs. Getting to the brake in an emergency then could be a real challenge.

Whether I qualify for a discount or not, I am not sure, but I am 99.9% sure I am getting the hand brake.

Thanks for the great write up. :2thumbs:

Love my handbrake. I still have a little bleeding on it to do, but it is a rock solid product.

Installed the ISCI handbrake and got to admit this is a great product. The install on my RT-S SE5 was straight forward and everything went per the instructions. One point not covered in the instructions was the need to remove the rubber boot surrounding the Brake switch. From what I understand this rubber boot may be new on the RT for the 2011.

Now for the lever reach. I’ve seen several older posts discussing the need for an adjustable brake lever for the ISCI handbrake and have to agree that the lever reach is quite far . Although not too bad for me but almost too far for my wife. The company that seems to have a product that will solve this problem is Medal Arts but other posts have stated that they have not responded to emails or phone messages.

I called Medal Arts today and to my surprise Les Brown the owner answered the phone and we had a great talk about his adjustable lever. He stated that they are in final design from the prototype released earlier and expect to have the final version in production by early fall. We discussed the ISCI handbrake for the Spyder at length and he understands our need would be for only the Brake lever and Les stated he would offer the single lever when released versus buying a pair as listed on their website today. Les suggested for anyone that is interested to send him an email via the contact link on his website and he will add you to his list now of over 300 that will be notified when the liability issues and patent process is under control and production begins. As stated earlier, he expects all of this be solved by end of summer and early fall to be in production.

Here is the web link to the Medal Arts site if you interested in getting on the email list for the adjustable lever.

I also suggested to Les that he checkout Spyderlovers.com to learn more about all of us and our needs.

I've been real happy with mine. The ISCI hand brake also makes a great platform for a RAM mount. It works great with my GPS and my FLIP video camera.

what year / make / model bike to you put in on RAM's site to find that base for the mount? do you have a link directly to that mount?

WrapFactory this is an ISCI product that we make. We use a RAM ball that is threaded to a stainless steel stud. The part number is SPY-AM. It attaches to the mirror mounting hole on the master cylinder.

It can be found on here on our webpage. It is listed under RS Accessories but this works on the RT as well.
