Anybody ever done an Iron Butt ride? There is a 1000 miles in 24 hours ride in Colorado on August 16-17. I am having a hard time convincing my riding buddies that this would be fun! I think it would be a blast. We all have to work 7-12 hour days straight during the DNC so it would be a fun way to relax before that happens. I realize we will be tired but it would be a fun tired!

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A couple of guys on "another site" did it on Spyders early this year. One did a BBG or Bun Burner Gold, which is 1,500 miles in 36 hours. Also some 50CC rides, which is 50 hours coast-to-coast. I have several BMW friends that have done numerous Iron Butts. "Fun" is probably not the word my skinny little butt would use to describe it, but it would be a great adventure. Go for it!

I did a back to back Iron But 8 years ago with a Friend on Fatboys. We left at 3 am, 40 miles north of Sacramento CA then headed to New Mexico for the first day (1040 miles). We rested up for four hours at a hotel then headed North towards Salt Lake city, then back on Highway 80 to home a grand total of 2145 miles in under 48 hours. It was a great adventure however I was a lot younger and fit at that time. I also had a very large windshield that I looked through and a comfortable seat and backrest plus highway pegs and perfect higher than standard handlebars which were comfortable. We traveled at between 70 and 85 plus for the most part and the fuel was down to about 28 mpg on this low reving twin but my Spyder at a high speed eats gas and gets about 20 mpg if your lucky so make sure you have gas stations available especially at night. I really like the spyder and am having a lot of fun with it but as mentioned I was younger when I did this.....( I might consider it again when I get the seating sorted out as the shape of the seat leave lots to be desired for comfort). 60 miles from home after crossing the Mountains I was so cold I had to ask someone to open the gas tank so I could refill it and I was glad to get home and warm up. All in all it was a fab experience and I am so glad I did it so if you want to do it GO FOR IT and good luck to you.

My personal best in one day so far is just under 750. Rode from Daytona Beach to Lafayette, then needed sleep after bein at bike week for 5 days....LOL

Have done 1000 in 24 a couple of times. Not sure I would call it fun. A lot more fun in good weather than bad. I can say that. Be sure to stay hydrated, eat right, stay awake, have the gear for any weather you may run it to and all those other things your Mom would tell you. If you do it, concentrate on being safe. You can't brag about it later if you don't make it in one piece. Ryde Safe and Enjoy. It will be an experience you will remember for a looooooooooooong time. :bigthumbsup: :bigthumbsup: :bigthumbsup:

Good point you made about the weather, we were advised by the Utah Hi-way patrol to delay our ride over the Salt flats as is was not the rain that was the problem but the lightning, and on that 100 mile crossing the highest item on the roadswould be us, needless to say is was a scary crossing to say the least. We are lucky in NCAl to have great weather most of the time but when you venture out make sure you have all the 'Stuff' for any event.

Closest I came was about 700 miles in 15 hours coming back home from Americade. That includes a 1 hour detour for a photo op at Niagara Falls and a 1 hour layover to let a tornado get out of our way near London, Ontario. ;D

Well you all have me beat but I still think it would be fun. My closest is 450 miles in ice and snow from Pagosa Springs, CO to Denver. It would normally be a 277 mile ride but we had to detour into New Mexico to miss the deep snow on the passes. Our highest temp was 40 and I was pretty sure I was going to lose a few fingers from frostbite. I have changed out my gloves and the rest of my gear is great. I wasn't sore and after a night's sleep I was fine. Now I realize we are talking 550 more miles but there won't be snow and it won't be cold. I only have the stock shield and I don't see that changing so I will do this ride, if my lame friends come through, with wind. I am totally okay with that though. Wish me luck in changing some minds!
