• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

iPod question

I realize I should read my owners manual but maybe someone here can help me. I have a 2010 RT SE5. When I hook my iPod up in the rear trunk with the Can Am cable my ipod goes into a Bluetooth mode and all I can control one using my Aux setting on my menu is going thru certain albums. How do I get it to use a playlist or just run random. Thanks!

Do you have the iPod cable? The audio only cable won't let you control the iPod from the radio controls.

I always just let mine run through the songs randomly...
But I believe, that you should have access to playlists... but not individual songs... :dontknow:

OK .................. lets talk IPODs

first i think you need an ipod 4, 3 or 2 in order to work everything the way you want (someone correct me if i am wrong).

on my 3rd generation ipod i can select playlists by pressing the mode button and then holding the right or left radio button for a few seconds, then release, and press and hold for a few seconds for the next playlist and so on, once you find the playlist you desire then you can change songs by pressing the mode button and the tapping the left or right radio button to go to the next song or repeat the current one.

i believe that the bluetooth is set to on or off on your ipod not your bike.

the only way i can get my ipod to play songs in the ROOT is to start it on a root song from the ipod and then it will stay there and you can switch from song to song unless you hold the right or left button down too long, then you will go into playlist mode.

Hope this rant helps and as with all my info it comes with a double your money back guarantee.

Full control seems to be more of a "black magic" than a science.

While riding, you can only switch between songs (short press), or depending on what mode you have set, albums or playlists with the long press.

While stopped, using the mode button, switch over to the ipod, then long press, and you will get a menu where you can select playlists, albums, artists, etc... Where the black magic comes in is that the menu is 3 or 4 layers deep, yet the display only shows 2. So many times I have selected an album, only to find I did it wrong because I didn't move over to the 3rd layer to start the album playing.

BTW... I'm probably not the best source, as I'm not a fan of iCRAP. I only have the iPod for the Spyder. If the Spyder ever goes away, iPod probably will too....

I think it's a different story when you're totally I-ntegrated.... I know folks who are 100% apple, and loving the ease of use. I myself are 50/50 windows / Linux, so the Ipod doesn't fit into my mix as well...

.. Or more I-ntegrated.... BTW... Throw Android into that mix as well for me... That may be on the decline, as I'm really liking my Windows 8 Ultrabook.

wintel = crappy software, crappy security. 800 lb gorilla that does not like comptetition

crapple = the new 'store' telling the owner of the hardware what software they can/cannot install on their computer. turning into the 800 lb gorilla, by suing other companies

An Apple salesman told me several years ago, before the 'store' existed, that any software that developers wanted to run on an Apple had to comply with Apple standards, including user interface. That way they limited s/w problems for the users and maintained a consistent user experience, regardless of who wrote the s/w. OTOH, MS allowed freedom, and hence anarchy, be the rule. Every program was different. That's one reason why users were always so full of praise for Apple and its ease of use.

Android has taken inconsistency to new level. It's pathetic how every s/w developer is allowed to create their own interface with no regard whatever for user interface consistency.

I have been online for the past week trying to track this exact connector. Could you steer me in the right direction as to where I could locate one. My dealer said he could order one from BRP, but it would take up to a month before I would get it. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks - John

Be careful. The cable Steve is showing was for older radios (2010, 11, and some 12's). You can see the black box in the cable. Later the radio changed sometime in 2012 and the new radio the iPod cable does not have the black box on it. Since yours is a 2012 I would find out which cable you need. The cables are not cross compatible!

Would I find this information in my Manual? Or is this something my Dealer would have to help me with? Speaking of which, the Dealer told me the other connector was updated to the one pictured above. Go figure!!!!

Nice video, Finless!!

Finless, I saw your "how to" video on your setup of the ipod in the trunk. That is exactly what I'm shooting for.

I would check with your dealer. He probably has to remove the radio and check serial number or something to find out.
If your 2012 was built late in 2012 good chance you have the new radio.

Did yours not come with the cable? All RT-S come with it.
