I know there has been some discussion on this but its my second post.. and I thought I'd tell you all what I found out. The current generation iPod works just fine with the "lightning to 30pin adaptor". I had read some posts on other forums that the cheap off brand ones would not give you full functionality all of the time.. so I didn't chance it and paid for the Apple one.
My impression of this integration to the RT audio is great. Really simple. Figure out your trunk mount (mine is pictured below). Plug in the iPod with your 30 pin cord and adapter. Click the mode till you're on radio, then set till on iPod and your golden. Long press on L/R cursor buttons to scroll through your playlists (the ones you set up in iTunes) and all's good. It even charges when plugged in.

I used an old car dock I had, drilled a hole in the center, replaced the bolt in the center of the trunk with one slightly longer and hot glued some felt into the dock to fit the tiny iPod better. Not a sexy mount I know, but it cost $1.00 for the bolt, so its all good.
Ride safe.
