Iphone 4 with google maps/navigation ????

Is it possible to make custom maps with turn by turn voice navigation on the Iphone 4 using google maps ?????? I have signed into google maps but it doesn't allow to to alter the route (other than avoiding highways/tolls). I'm trying to plan one of the rides for Spyderquest and it's not being cooperative.

Do I need a Android phone to do custom maps ?????

I have android and have not been able to do what you described. I finally broke down and purchased CoPilot (http://copilotlive.com). It lets you plot out a route and then modify it to fit your desires. One other thing that I liked is that all of the maps are cached on the phone so you are not using data.
