There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I got a Starcom 1. The CB/Intercom package costs 3 times as much and you have less capability.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Wireless
I purchased a Scala Teamset for intercom communications between driver and passenger as well as Bluetooth connectivity with my celular phone. If you have a Bluetooth enabled GPS you are also able to connect to the GPS with this headset.
The driver/passenger intercom function works very well and if you don't require bike to bike connectivity you may want to read up on this unit, as well as other wireless and wired units in the market. I went the cheap route and it meets our requirements.

I ordered the whole enchilada, probably not what most people did. I was taken aback by how beautiful and
well thought out this roadster was formulated by engineers as well as a design team that had way more time
invested in the thought process of a new machine that had been out in the sport version for two previous years.

I too spoke to many people and asked questions like you, to try to get what will fit my needs . :chat:So the
questions I asked myself were. If this turns out to be everything I dreamed would I ride it more?
Would I be able to incorporate this into my work?
Will my wife participate, or will I be riding with just my dog.(I didn't give my dog a choice)
The answers so far are Yes,Yes, and as soon as we get a living trust.(which I am in the process of working on.) Yes.
I have been told that wired will always be more clear than wireless, Remember the Verizon commercial"can you hear me now?"
I think the helmet design that will be coming out shortly is also first class and very versatile. I had XM radio before and cancelled
it, but this time I am gonna take it and keep renewing for the cheaper rate that westgl recommends.
I held back on getting the trailer cuz my Harley friends said I would use it once and then it would just collect dust in the garage.
Well I now know I will be ordering it, and that is fine.
For me when I am ryding I may start off with the am radio then switch to ipod or XM all from the digital
cluster. which has a readout telling you what your doing.
I already got the Nolan Trilogy helmet that is bluetooth capable and may do that as well. And probably choose from
what people say in this thread. In California during
the summer it can get hot, and I have been told by experienced riders it is good to have more than one helmet.
So I will probably do both.
The best part is you don't even have to decide right now, you can always add them on. I have had my GPS
for about a month now and they are installing my Comm. ctr and XM radio this week. However until the helmets
come out there won't be too much benefit for me, except for the extra channels. And I do wanna get the traffic alert. I will patiently await.

I'm curious as to the detailed installation on the RT. I'll bet you've laid this out in one of your prior posts. Can you point me too it? If you haven't covered the RT installation in detail, could you take a moment to share?
Now here's my dumb question of the day - my RT is XM capable: does this mean that an XM receiver is built in and needs to be activated? or does one first need to purchase a receiver and plug/wire it in? Okay, you can stop laughing now...

Latest Starcom1 is still sitting in the box. My Spyder RTS has been in the shop for six weeks now, with no end in sight. Needless to say, I couldn't install the Starcom unit. Sorry I can't provide any detail for the RT.
To add XM to the RT, you need a model with an audio system or an audio system added to the base model. You also need to purchase the XM option from your dealer...and the necessary Entertainment Harness. The BRP XM unit is integrated to the audio system through the left handlebar control.

Do Bluetooth® Headsets Cause Cancer?
Well I've been in private practice in the natural health field for over 33 years now. I've seen so much with the evolution of technology and health matters that there is a real scientific health concern in some areas. Still there is not a final judgment of this cell phone and Bluetooth radio wave form hazards. BUT, there is enough evidence to definitely question its long term safety. Now, seeing that I only have (rumored) one brain I will defer to the wired setups of anything as much as I can. I love the Bluetooth cost, performance and simplicity. But, with the fear of being rolled in front of a TV with cartoons on and having my drool caught by a bib at the ripe old age of 59 is just not worth all the 'benefits' of having my brain injected by radio waves while bee bopping to the beat of the 60's. This is only my opinion 'your mileage may vary'. Boy am I going to get it now.

For me, I prefer the wired systems. I know jacking in may seem like a big pain to some, but keeping your helmet charged up seems like a bigger pain to me.

LOL For years I said that I HAD to listen to her at home, why would I want to listen to her on the motorcycle? But when we both started wearing full face helmets, it became nearly impossible to communicate without stopping so we got a set of Scala Rider Q2's. Never thought I'd admit it, but I actually enjoy the ride much more being able to talk back and forth. The Q2's have worked well for us. I like being wireless - If I was plugged into the bike, I'd probably rip my head off when I forgot I was plugged in.
