Insurance in Massachusetts

I know this subject has been beaten to death... but....
I just found out that Progressive Insurance is able to offer in MA as of April 1st. I wounder if anyone has heard of any additional Insurance offerings in MA?

I have Commerce now, so I'm hoping to save if I can. Anyone have Progressive; how do they rate?

Last Mar when we got our spyders we called around and finally we got insured with Pacific Specialty through Marc Fischer. He had the best rates and he can search for you in just about every state. I just got my bill for this year and after reading it wrong at first and thinking my insurance had almost doubled, I called Marc. He got back with me the very next day and showed me that the new rate was for both Brian's and my spyder. Our insurance actually went down.

Here is a breakdown of our coverage and costs:
Limited Bodily Injury 100/300
Limited Property Damage 50
500 ded. both comp and collision
$3000 incl. accessories coverage
Michigan assessment fee

My cost is $385 per year and Brian's is $417 per year. That isn't all bad considering $105.00 out of each of those rates is for the stupid Michigan Assessment fee.

Foremost (through AARP) here in Michigan:

Bodily Injury - $250k/$500k
Property Damage - $100k
Uninsured - $100k/$300k
$500 deductible for comprehensive and collision
Towing and roadside package (even though I have BEST it's only $8)
$3,500 accessories
MI assessment

$337/yr.

Beat my current Progressive policy by over $100.

Update:
So I went to Mark's web site: bikersins.com
The only states they dont offer insurance in; Mass and Hawaii.
I live in Mass.

What I hate is Geico, All state, Nation Wide, Progressive ALL advertise on the radio and on TV (Cable which is very localized).
Guess what... they dont offer in Mass either!
But supposedly Progressive will start April 1st.

I got a quote from Progressive and they wanted $1,500 a year in Michigan. Was feeling pretty good about State Farm *only* charging $830 a year until I read this thread!

I've heard that many people had their rates jacked up after the first year when they signed up with Foremost. One guy told me his went from $700 the first year to $2300 the second!

You guys with the low rates in MI might want to check the policy and make sure you're fully covered if you take a spin during the winter months - they might have you set up only riding during the summer and in storage for the winter. I've not heard of anyone paying sub $400 for a year of Spyder insurance.

Progressive told me they had it classified as a Sport Bike - aka rocket bike.

A couple of people have said this. When we got the Spyder a year ago, our agent had to call Progressive, because they didn't have the Spyder on their computer yet. They classified it as a sport-touring bike, just as BRP has tagged it. Haven't gotten the renewal, I hope they don't change it. It cost us in the neighborhood of $500, including the $114 MCCA fee that Michigan lines their pockets with. Together with my BMW, for max coverage, the total was less than $900. Guess I'll hold my breath until the renewal comes. Progressive already lost my other bikes last year due to their rates, and their inability to insure the vintage bikes for damage and loss. All the collector vehicles ended up on Hagerty policies.

Foremost policy for coverage described is a 12 month coverage with no lay-up period. Also has first accident waiver and in addition to coverage for accessories covers helmet and any safety gear damaged in an accident. Both Foremost and Progressive lowered their rates as first year experience was better than they expected. It helps that we are in Jackson, that we are 60 and that we have no accidents or points. Progressive dropped from $525 to $444, but Foremost through AARP is $337 for annual policy including $104 for MI assessment. If they jack their rates up next year, I'll find someone else like I did this year. It is not available in Massachusetts.

Hi Firefly,
Our rates are for a full year and they went down this year. You can check my coverage amounts if you go to the top of the thread. I have pretty good limits too. I do have $500 deductible for both comp and collision though. Even so, I am very happy. When I shopped, I got horrible rates from Foremost and Progressive and last year Geigo didn't insure motorcycles in MI. Fischer got our coverage through Pacific Specialty and they have been great. Good luck in your hunt for better rates.

You guys all did better than I. The best I was able to do was Foremost at $769. Progressive was BY FAR the most expensive. Those guys are NUTS!
