There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Instrument cluster dislodged on ‘21RT - any resolution??

Soooooooo. Just ducked out for a short ride. The local council were through a day ago filling potholes so it should be “smooth sailing”. Just in case, I’ll do 70kph in the 80kph zone and keep an eye out. Bugger:yikes:. It looked like a recently filled pothole as I approached, but the far side of it had subsided already. Couldn’t see it until I was right on it. It was as though someone had put a 60mm high speed bump on the road. How the Kanine survived is beyond me, but I still have to do a good check. I’ll go back tomorrow to see if I can find my teeth:ohyea:

However, what this standard procedure, slap happy, pothole fix job HAS done, is dislodge the entire instrument cluster on my ‘21RT. Yes, it was that big a thump. I have never experienced anything like it. The cluster is now bouncing around inside the fairing. Before I dig out my workshop manual, has anyone had this happen and effected a resolution please?

Remove your mirrors and mirror mounts. You can reach in with a long object and push on it near the top. The clips are on the top of the display. Make sure you put the bottom of the display in first.

If that doesnt work, remove windshield, windshield bracket, screw behind each mirror and one pushpin below center of headlights behind removable panel. Lift top of dash off.

Thanks, Joel, that is very much appreciated:thumbup: I’ll have a go at that today. So just effectively slot the bottom back in, and then press the top back in?

I would also take a good look at the front suspension ..... good luck .... Mike

Thanks Mike, unfortunately, it looks OK (I was hoping it might be damaged so I could justify new Ikon shocks for the front :ohyea: )

But you DID dislodge the instrument cluster, didn't you Pete?! . That must've taken a bit of a solid knock, but there's potholes like that all over Oz - some places have 'em even worse! :lecturef_smilie:

So it's not unreasonable to think that this might happen again.... maybe when you're really travelling at speed, &/or the most inconvenient time, and if it's hard enough of a thud to knock the cluster out, it's SURELY gonna be putting the front suspension & your control of the machine at risk every time it happens!! :yikes: . But those IKON shocks you really want will at least reduce those risks, so maybe you should consider a pre-emptive installation?? :dontknow:

After all, fitting a set of quality shocks like the IKONS will make ALL your ryding more enjoyable, and if they also minimise the risk of dropping the cluster out, maybe even damaging it, &/or losing control of the machine & ending up in hospital, then the IKON shocks could prove to be be a real money and life saver, couldn't they?!? ;) . Worth a shot, isn't it??

Peter, I have just presented your very cogent reasoning to the Minister for War and Finance. She personally now thinks you are a prick because she can find little fault in your logic. :roflblack: Ikon fronts are now looking very promising……although wouldn’t a shock with both compression AND rebound damping (like Wilbers) be required to counter the effect of our pot holes?

Brilliant, thanks Joel. Saved me a lot of time.

Removed screen, removed screen bracket bolts, removed push pin behind frunk, removed screws behind mirrors, removed screws under screen bracket, slide forward and lift cover off. Reseat cluster.

I can now see just how it would have been dislodged, as there isn’t a push pin or even a small screw holding it in place as it simply “clicks” in, top and bottom, but you can also see just how hard a thump it would have taken to pop it out.

It also shows that BRP have significantly improved the mirror cover fasteners on the late ‘21 RT/F3 models as others have suspected.

Plus, there is a new fastening system in place for the ‘21+ RT/F3 mirrors that appears to be much more heavy duty to prevent mirror shake than the pre ‘21 models.

Here’s the instrument cluster “hanging loose”.

Here’s the two new “brass” nuts holding the mirror assembly firmly. You have the ability to adjust “slack” over time. Plus it has another rear “latch” for added hold.
