In shop for new DPS

I'm not really thrilled about this.
I was to pick up my :spyder:today for the shift switch replacement repair.
Got a call from the dealer that they cannot release my :spyder:until the new DPS is installed.:chill:

The DPS is being shipped today. Should have it in next week and my :spyder:back by next weekend. With all the issues I have had w/ my :spyder: this year I wanted to have at least a week of ryding before taking my long distance trip. Plus I have a set of triple plays I wanted to get on and perhaps some hiway pegs before my trip.

I hope that these DPS are as "robust" as they say they are and there are no "side effects" that cause more issues, as this will be the third event I've missed this year (Daytona, Chicago the first two).

I was planning on getting the DPS replaced after SitS when I need to get an oil change.

I hope they get this right the first time.

So, you're getting the "NEW" redesigned DPS or just a NEW-OLD DPS?

Ah, the Brand new Gen 2 DPS, good stuff!

Finger crossed for you that all goes well with the installation. Please, please feel free to let us know any information about how the installation goes, if BUDS is ok with the upgrade, how long the installation takes, etc...

I am sure it has been tested in the BRP labs and on the street!

Cheers and good luck!

Can they legally hold your vehicle hostage? In the letter to the owners BRP doesn't advise the vehicle not be driven, only that you should be aware of the potential issues.

This is 100% BS!

Don't put up with it-- give them hell over it.

Let me tell you this--- when I had my DPS done last week--- they ordered it on Wednesday and got it on Thursday----- 1 day.

I would DEMAND they get you back on the road within 2 days.

When I took mine in I gave them ONE WEEK to fix everything--- told them I was picking it up regardless of whether they were done or not.

YOU need to set the deadline--- not them!

:dontknow:
I'm not a lawyer. But they (the service dept) are adamant about not returning the :spyder: until the DPS is replaced.

So.. what turned into a warranty repair that was supposed to take less than a week is now going onto it's third week.:gaah:

Jan-March in shop for DPS issues
June and July for DESS replacement
3 weeks for Shift switch and DPS.
:cus:

I would say the new unit is going to be pretty bullet proof. Seems the current issue is simply a lack of lubrication which causes premature wear over time. From what I've heard it was a simple fix (conceptually) to assure continual and permanent lubrication.

They probably did not have to redesign the whole unit, though I'll bet they took a look at every component before they went forward.

My feeling is this will be a very good system. Time will tell, of course, but I've got a very good feeling about this whole thing.

So have we confirmed if the new units have Zircs on them?

Hell was given last night by my neighbor, whose :spyder2: we were going to pick up today with mine. Believe it or not, they have had MANY more issues than me w/ their :spyder2:.
i'll ask why it wasn't next day'd. after reading posts here thatr some dealers already have them.:gaah:

Then again-- if my new DPS that the dealer received last Thursday is indeed the 'old' version (which I believe it is).. that may explain why it was easy to get so soon.....

Part number on my workorder is: 709400870 --- but that might not mean much knowing BRP's goofy part numbering system.

Other numbers on the sticker of the unit:

1000402A

E01925G00

870A20210065

Made in Canada

So have we confirmed if the new units have Zircs on them?

I can't confirm that. Personally, I would be surprised if they had zerks. It is not that difficult to have a sealed unit (in my mind more desirable for this application) which would be very effective.

Zerks are normally used in situations where a permanently sealed unit is not practical. Zerk grease does 2 things. Supply new, fresh, clean lubrication and forces out dirt from around the external seal.

I just don't think this is required for the DPS. A sealed unit will not requre new, fresh grease. I could be wrong, of course, but it is fun to speculate.

Either way, these new units should be very good.

We have similar thoughts on this, Ron.

I guess, if there is a way to in fact inject lubrication in the new DPS (zerk fitting or similar confirmed?:dontknow:), etc... it will become part of the maintenance chart in the new future, which would be fine!

I too think BRP has done their due diligence in testing this New Gen 2 DPS unit. That is my feeling on it. Time of course will be the judge, but I think they have gone to bat and hopefully hit a home run for the DPS issues. Fingers crossed.

musicarcade: Again, good luck and let us know how you make out.

Cheers.

Does anyone know the new part number for the improved DPS???
There are actually two...the RT uses a different part number. I don't know the numbers, but as of today Lance said that the computer now shows revised parts numbers for both models.

Really, when you consider this issue, BRP was very close with the current unit. My feeling is that if these 2 gears had lubricated adequatly, we would not be having any issues with it. It isn't like the entire DPS was falling appart.

That being said, my hat is off to BRP for going into overkill mode (conjecture, I understand, but still) because they could have simply improved lubrication to these 2 gears and let it go at that.

Instead, it appears that they have completely redesigned the offending component. In my mind this is probably well beyond what probably was required to fix the issue.

So, does that mean BRP is looking forward to a Spyder with more HP requiring a heftier DPS and figured why not just build a killer DPS unit now?

More speculation, for sure.... But it's fun to do, isn't it? :D

Maybe it's just me, but I'm still trying to get used to your Avatar.....:yikes:

I would have felt much better about the DPS recall if BRP actually had the new part at the dealers before holding Spyders hostage for a replacement.:doorag:

Limited amount of DPS so if every dealer pre orders it, then it be too costly for BRP to stock it.

I know there is a limited amount of DPS's- I just don't think they should hold owners Spyder's until they actually have something on the shelf and the process has begun.

btw, the way it was explained to me, each dealer gets a certain amount of DPS shipped to them based on 10% of their sales. So if your dealer sold 40 Spyders, they would get 4 DPS units. (hopefully they round up instead of down!) My :spyder:, and my neighbors, were not purchased at the dealership where are Spyders are being serviced, so an additional order was placed to get our 2 Spyders back on the road. Ours are (supposedly) to be the first in SC to get the new DPS's.

I'm so excited to be the guinea pig on the way to Gatlinburg.
