There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Ilco's X270 key blank...

Okay... I got a couple of these "WonderBllanks" from Ilco and had one cut to fit the ignition...
It locks and unlocks the rear compartments just fine, and even spins in the ignition so as to light up the dash...
But... I don't think that it can be depressed down into the switch far enough to unlock thr frunk or the seat. It appears that it's quite a bit "square-er" than the BRP key...
Has anybody else had this issue, or do I just need to quit playing gently with it and give it a good shove? I'm a bit reluctant to get "heavy-handed" with it since it just doesn't feel quite as solid as the original key...
Or do I need to take another one of the blanks and take a file to it? :yikes:

wait until winter, then shove away so you don't have it in the shop for the next 90 days:lecturef_smilie: :roflblack:

You are right the ILCO key does not insert far enough to unlock the frunk, you need to turn the bike on and use the unlock rocker switch.

Dont' store the real spare key in the frunk or under the seat. Make sure you put it in the trunk or somewhere else. That is what I ended up doing.

That's about what I was figuring would need to be done... But I am gonna take a file to one of them and see if I can ruin a perfectly good blank!
Wish me luck! :D

I had to file the shoulder back a bit so it would push down far enough to open trunk and seat

That's exactly what you need to do but you don't need to take another blank, just file the key that's already cut. A really good locksmith did mine. He ground the shoulders back enough that it would push in far enough to work then took a file and thinned the key very slightly to make it slip in a little easier.

Bob, I've been out of town and just got back. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. I've never included pics in a post so I'll have to read up on how to do it.

don't mean to hi-jack the thread but related question that I know as been sort of asked before.

We know that the blanks won't start the bikes and from what I have heard you pretty much have to have the chipped key touching the blank to get it to start.

Being a non technical person, is there any mod to alter this. Can an RF extension wire be added, we get so used to our car key just staying in your pocket.

Be really nice to leave the chipped key in zip pocket and just start the bike. There are a lot of clever people on this site (i'm not one of them) has anyone ever tried to figure it out?

Just a thought, please be nice I don't own a flame suit

Bob, I uploaded a couple pictures to my album so you can check there. I still haven't learned how to attach them to a post. I'll make that a project for another time. I didn't have a non-modified blank to compare to but you can see where the grinding was done on the shoulders and the flat part of the key and maybe compare against the non-modified blank that you have. The filing on the flat might not have to be done but it makes the key slide in and out easier and lessens the chance of breaking one off. I have two of them so my wife and I both carry one when we're on a trip and they both work just fine.

Thanks Cotton! I'll go kick around in your album a bit and see if I can find one... :2thumbs:

Went to locksmith today had a key made from what he told me was a triumph key and it works perfect no filing or anything. It is a 270key blank just for a triumph hope this might help

I did take a flat Bastard (Can I legally say that?), and it now opens the frunk and the seat as well... :2thumbs:
I'll get another copy cut for the Missus and maybe a 3rd to store on the bike. I'll have two blanks left over...Anybody want one?

YES! being in the door industry, you think i could source these blanks from the locksmiths i work with all the time. no such luck. they can show them to me in the book, but can't order them from their suppliers. even tried to order 10 at a time and no go.

let me know which hoops to jump thru & i will.

I just had 2 ILCO X270's cut for my 2010 RT and they will allow me to unlock the seat and open the frunk. Not sure why mine works and others don't. Did they change the switch after the 2010's?
