• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone here know how to remove the ignition key cylinder???

Reason for this is that i have an 09 and on the 10 and 11 models you can pop the trunk and gas with the engine running but on the 09 you cannot. This is because of a pin lock (from what i was told) in the cylinder that can be removed by a locksmith. I want to take it out and get this done so i don't need to deal with a motor and wiring to open the trunk when the engine is on.

Please help to those of you than have stripped down your Spyders....

BTW... this is what happens when a woman leaves her man at home with tools and is bored.... Literally did this to Roxy just to learn more about her :)

I bet if she left you with only a mop or broom you'd have found an excuse to take a nap. :D

Sadly i'm the one that does all the cleaning too oh and the cooking... She only does the laundry and makes a mess..... :lecturef_smilie:

BUMP!!!!

Are you all saying that with everything you have all done no one know how to get to the ignition cylinder????:gaah:

Its a huge job. When I put the chrome handle bar cover on it took me 3-4 hours, lots of tupperware comes off . Look for the instructions on how to install the BRP chrome handle bar cover .

This is from memory. I had to remove the ignition to install the Helibar risers.

1. Unclamp the clutch and tie it out of the way.
2. Loosen the throttle body. It needs to slide out about 1/2" to get
the little black sleeve of the end of the bar covers.
3. Remove 6 (I think) bolts (8 & 10mm) from the underside of the
bar covers. 2 of them are well hidden near the ignition switch and
can be felt, but not seen.
4. By this time, the underneath cover will come off.
5. Twist the black ring around the ignition counterclockwise and
it will come off.
6. You should be able to disconnect an unbolt the ignition module now.

I'm sure I missed some steps, but the rest should be obvious once the covers are off the bars. It took me abour 2 hours to install the Helibars.

Sorry, that's all I remember right now.

Thanks for the awesome responses guys.... I think i have a good idea of what needs to be done. Looks like tonight i'm taking my bars apart and by tomorrow will hopefully have a modified ignition :)

So it's all done and i'm not sure how..... Took it in for a blown gasket and my service guy just did it for me and said "it wasn't that bad".....

I'll let you know how nice it is when i pick her up today :):ohyea::ohyea:

So what exactly needs to be removed from the ignition? I would really like to do this.

I asked him yesterday when i picked it up and his basic answer is your better off taking it to the dealer to have them do. He said 30-1 hour to modify but if anything in the ignition cylinder goes bad they have the tools to fix it.
