There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Idling high upon start up

Hi again. On my Spyder 2010 RT-SE, sometimes when I start it, it will idle around 1700 instead of 1400. Then of course if you try to put it in gear there is a clunking noise. Any ideas on why the high rpms would be produced at start up? This doesnt happen every time I start it but seems to be occuring more often. No codes show up to indicate a problem.

Let it idle for few, then try to put it on gear.

Mine will do the same once in a while. I do the above except, before I try to put it in gear I twist the throttle a little, it usually goes down to 1400 rpms then I shift normally. May want to try that and see if it works for you.

Also happens to me once in a while. The roooooooom, rooooooooom on the throttle seems to cure it for me also.

WHen My spyder gets real cold, it will idle at around 2400 rpms. My belief is that once the engine gets to operating temperature is when it drops back down to 1400. It reminds me of the auto-choke on my 1985 Scottsdale. Had a 454 with a 4bbl carb and I would have to "kick it down" after it had some time to warm up.
If I were you I would let it idle a little longer before running it. Let us know how it turns out.

Just sayin...........:doorag:

My 2012 RT-S does the same in the colder weather. Seems like anything below 40 or so it wants to idle up around 22-2400 until it warms up a bit then it drops down to a more normal idle. Weather's warming up and the snow and ice are pretty much gone from the roads - time to ride.

:agree: It should settle back down to the 1400 rpm or so idle after just a couple of seconds... It lets things get up to operating temperature!
Trying to smack it into gear when it's not quite ready is the reason for the clunking...
Now if it DOESN'T settle down to 1400 rpm...

Same here..!!

Although we have an RS we have the occasional high revving. Clears up before we reach the corner. Usually revving it up a little higher brings the idle down.

If it runs, go for a ride and worry less. Mine starts most times in the 1700 and even 2200 rpm range and settles to 1400 in seconds.

My 2010RT did this in the early stages of the throttle body going out. It eventually reached the point where it didn't start at all without resetting the computer several times. I have not had the problem again since the throttle body was replaced. Turning off and restarting made mine idle down when I had the problem. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it may give you some place to look. It had no codes when it was doing this, they came later.

Hi revs at start

Similar problem here was solved by replacing the two small vacuum hoses that connect to the base of the TB's. When the hoses on mine cracked and leaked it threw a code and the limp home mode kicked in. Changed them out and a new machine. I was talking to a friend who has a 2010 RT and suggested he check the hoses on his. He said he was not having any problems but would look at them. Removed the TW and started to poke around, did not see any problems so he buttoned it back up. Started it up and high idle. Bumped the throttle a few times and it settled down. Next start up high idle again. Took more bumps on the grip to get it back to normal idle. Asked me to come over to look at it after he removed the TW again. Found that the rear hose had a crack in it. Perhaps he damaged it when poking around. I had extra tubing left from mine so we replaced both hoses. Now it works well, no high idle. Just guessing that a vacuum leak or something similar may be the cause.

high idle problem solved

Thanks to all who viewed and responded to our problem!!! Code finally appeared and it was the Throttle Body. Thanks to our great mechanics at Apache motorcycles in Mesa Arizona and BRP the problem was fixed at a no charge. Bike is up and running great again. If you are in the Phoenix area I highly recommend the Apache motorcycle crew for addressing and fixing your issues. Parts of course had to come from Canada as no one stocks them.:yes:

Hgh cold start revs

My 2011 RTL SEt on start up always goes high then settles down to 1400 to 1750 RPM stages until it develops some heat.

A cold start in FL is somewhere between 75 and 30 degrees I guess! I know one thing for sure it's cold to us temperature wimps. LOL

RPMs

High RPMs are very normal and do to the cold motor temps. Let the motor and oil warm up then RPMs will drop. Motor oil is also your trans oil. when my wife starts her 2012 limited she starts it and the a push out the garage door and it warms up. RPMs drop and into gear with no problem. Fuel Injection its great. My Goldwing does the same thing.
