• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

HOKA HEY Motorcycle Challenge

RED RIDER

New member
I wonder if Doc heard about this? The Hoka Hey is sponsored by members of the Lakota Tribe. It is a 7000 mile race from Key West to Homer Alaska. It has a firstplace prize of $500,000. The riders dont stay in Hotels and could ride as long as they liked. It is a true Cannonball type event . Ride as fast as you want and as long as you can. Most riders
caught a little sleep alongside their bikes. The riders has a lot of checkpoints to make sure they followed the correct route. A local rider from my neighbor hood was the 61st to cross the finish line. Lots of riders were disqualified for missing checkpoints. 400 riders started and only about 100 finished. I DID NOT RIDE THIS EVENT. This info came from a
story about the race in our local paper. Sadly ther were also two confirmed fatalities.

I went to that web site.
One of the rules:
The event is open to air cooled, V-Twin Harley-Davidson™ motorcycles only. Custom bikes may qualify but certain modifications (e.g., fuel cells) may not be permitted.
:dontknow:
Is :spyder2: considered a custom bike?

So I got to buy a Harley to comptete? That sounds discriminatory! (that is a word...right?)

$1000 entry fee and you have complete the race within 14 days are just a couple of other things I noticed. It sure would be fun to try but since the Spyder in neither a Harley nor air cooled, I guess I won't even be considering it.

I tried looking up this years winner & there seems to be a lot of controversy.
The link is only to google, I read a few links & it is not looking good really for any one. (polygraph tests, FBI)
Maybe a fraud case all the way.

Sadly as stated earlier, two riders did lose.

Much controversy on this ride. Riders say there were several versions of the map and routes given out. No winner announced or determined when they arrived at Homer, AK. Did not sell enough tickets to pay prize. Lakota's say they were not an official sponser. Promoters said they would announce winner and pay them off at Sturgis. The jury is still out---when and if anyone hears about a winner, I would be intersted if they would post it here. I'm guessing the promoters took the money and ran.

When I heard a $500,000 prize, my first thought was it must be an Indian Casino sponsoring it, because the entry fee would be a drop in the bucket compared to the Grand Prize.

Pretty sketchy.......:trike:
