• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hitch in time

Got the hitch installed today, well kinda. The electrical part was actuallu easy and fun compared to the mechanical part of getting that @#$%! over the swing arms. Yes, grease, checked for square,etc.. Now the real nut of it is this, after some "adjustments" to line up the hole through the axle, it doesen't seem to boom down far enough to reach the hole for the cotter pins through the castellations. It is on, however and we shall see after some adjustments. But I must say, it is a well made product and worth every dime. Now to adapt the nine pin wiring to my four wire trailer.

I just installed my hitch yesterday and the first time I tried, I too forgot to remove the original cotter key. Yes, it was a bugger getting it on and aligned, even with the grease. I bought it used and when I received it, the four bolts were loose. I tightend them before installing it but could not figure what the proper torque is supposed to be. I am assuming the fellow that had it before me maybe loosened these four bolts to make removal and installation easier and then tightened them after aligned.

AND YES, the wiring dilemma / sage goes on while I try to get ti working the way I want!?!!%%$#

????? Did you remember to remove the axle cotter key?

Yes, axle cotter pin removed. It just doesen't seem to want to go any further. So,did you have some solution to the 4 wire 9 pin dilemma? I'm no stranger to making connectors but pin sizes seem to be a bit unusual. Life marches on, but now with a hitch. Now that's a thought, loosening the 4 bolts each side then go for placement. Might be an ah ha! moment.

If the hitch pin nut won't tighten down to the cotter pin hole (castellated nut), then something is wrong somewhere. I'd pull the hitch off and take another look. If it slid on hard, it should be tight to the swingarm, so the pin should tighten without difficulty. The pin nut does need to be torqued for the hole to be high enough in the nut's slot for the cotter key.

I am headed out the door now, but there are a couple of ways to address the 9-pin connector. No, it is not compatible with any standard trailer connector. PM me and we can chat about it later. I do not recommend loosening the four bolts that hold the hitch together.

As for lighting, here is where I am at at this time. I have a 2011 bike harness and a 029 2010 Pole harness. My aspen trailer has the led light upgrade. It has separate turns and brake.
  • I now have running lights as I should.
  • I have turn signals (when brake is not on) as It should.
  • Now when the brakes are on, only the yellows light but they are bright.
  • Now here is where things are not the best, yet!
  • When I have the right turn on and the brake, only the yellows work, right yellow blinks and right yellow stays on.
  • With the left turn on and the brake on, the left yellow blinks and the right yellow stays on.
  • The reds are stay on as running lights all the time.

I have contacted Aspen and they may be sending me red less for the turn signals just to make the colors correct for Oregon. This certainly a work in progress!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Nancystoy has been so patient trying to talk me thru the options!!
Thanks

Purchased the 2010 tongue harness from SMS and it adapted to the 4 wire setup without a hitch. (groan) The castellated nut issue has been solved with the correct application of torque and a strong light to see the hole in the pin. Pics for phase one to folow, before paint is applied.
Thanks to all on this forum for making things a lot easier.
