• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Higher end car audio speakers for the RT;

So I've been finding a sparseness in Marine grade audio speakers. Since all car audio speakers are made to withstand heat and cold and moisture and wetness, anyone see a big downside to using car audio for the RTS?

I'm talking about Hertz brand, JL audio, Focal, etc.

Specifically, I'm looking at the Hertz Hcx 165 Hi-Energy 2-Way 6.5" Coaxial speakers for the front (I will make an adpter or cut to opening)
Then I'm looking at either the Hertz EM100 4" for the rear or see if I can make a 5.25" pair fit. nojoke

thoughts?

You should be ok using mobile electronics speakers but bewarned, using standard mobile electronics speakers will rust/corrode over a faster rate than marine grade since most marine grade is built more for the "open water environment " . I have replaced many speakers in boats and Motorcycles that the owers tried to save a few dollars using standard mobile electronic speakers that eventually blew out amps/head units etc because they werent designed for the environment . Now if you garage keep your spyder and it sees NO rain go ahead you should be ok . Hertz is a great company , JL is also a very good company as well . question is what do you want your sound quality to be like ?

I have already done what your about to do. I was not very empresses with the out come as far as sound. after the fact I have learned that the stock speakers is 2 ohms and I replaced with standard 4 ohm. Not as loud as was be for because of them being 4 ohm they will not allow the stock amp to work to its full potential. I will be replacing again but finding 2 ohm speakers.

Thanks for that tip Farmboy. Makes sense to me. This is One of the big benefits of the forum. Often this one little golden nugget of info can save you lots of grief later! I bookmarked this post!

Someone had previously recommended using Polk Audio DXI 525's in the front and DXI 400's in the rear. These are sized to replace the originals and are marine certified.
