• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. HID's

Hello folks. So today I am planning on putting our RT-S up on the rack in our garage and slap some accessories on her.

Question... Anyone here do an aftermarket HID install? I need a little help... :opps:

Inspector Gadget was kind enough to mail me a CD with pictures, but we still have about 30 boxes to unpack and it must be in one of those. Because for the last hour I have been looking everywhere with no luck.

Anyway... Looking for tips. Do we need to cut into the headlight assembly? If so do I need to buy grommets or use 200mph tape?

Any tips on running the wires? DO I need to run it's own power/relay setup?

Thank you!!! :spyder2::doorag::2thumbs:

With the mini-balast you dont need to do anything to the fog lights (if you have them), the balast will fit inside the housing. I just used heavy duty velcro and attached to the bottom right inside the housing (right where the rear cap is removed) and tie rapped the wires so it was all neat.
On the headlights I took a dremel and very carefully only removed enough to tightly fit the two wires from the balast through the edge (opposite the edge with the seal), it made a nice tight seal and if I need to I can add some sealant, so far though I have not seen an issue with it and I rode through the rains going to and coming back from Cuba. I then used heavy duty velcro and mounted the balast to the bottom of the headlight, some mounted them to the frame that seperates the two headlight, but I found that to be a pain getting the headlight in and out, mounting to the bottome of the headlight the whole assembly comes out after I disconnect the connections. InspectorGadget did not make any modifications on the headlights, he twisted the balast and manuevered it in so that he did not have to cut into the housing.
If you need any other assistance please dont hesitate.

If you mount the ballast under the light make sure it is toward the front, you will see when you have the shroud off, just feel with your hand and find the open area where you can mount.

HID's...

I used grommets for both the headlamps and the fog lights. You can manage to squeeze the connectors through a 5/8" hole, but I used 3/4" x 1/4" grommets. The holes I drilled in the headlamp covers was in the flat area behind the bulb. For the fog lamps I drilled in the lower sloping area.

This ended up being one project I will not do. I tried for a few hours and failed. Not sure if I have an early release setup or what. But for the life of me I cannot get the light unit on the inside out of the housing so that I can squeeze the ballast inside. Heck I could not even get the circuit board out!

I will wait for a BRP sale on the one they offer and install it.:gaah::gaah::gaah:

There is probably room inside of the fog lamp housing for the thin ballast, but not inside of the main lamp assembly.
