• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

HID install = weird electirc problems?

So I installed my HID headlights a couple day back, everything was pretty basic (same as the write up on this site). After getting everything in and working I went to go for a ride and the bike wouldn't shift into gear (SE5). I key cycled it a few times and it finally went into gear. The next time I rode it the same thing happened twice then the dash started doing funk stuff, when I first turn on the key the gauges do the sweep thing all the lights flash etc, well then when i would try to start it the gauges would do the same thing again, and at one point the bike wouldn't even start?

I popped the dash out on the side of the road and unplugged the HID's from where the plug into the factory harness, and everything started working perfect. I went home and threw my stock bulbs back in and rode about 150miles with many stops and restarts with no issues. I guess i'm going to install a relay wiring harness and give the hid's a second go, has anyone else had any issues??

Thanks
James

What kind of HID's did you install? Did they come with a slim digital ballast?

ESI hids?

If you have the ESI hids, I'd give them a call. They will go out of their way to help.

I went thru the same stuff on mine. Got some HID's off ebay and had nothing but troubles. Called Evan, got hooked up and they worked great. I am not an electrician by any means and have no idea why some digital ballasts work and others dont.

The CanBus system is highly susceptible to both RFI interference and interference from switching and sudden load/voltage changes on the electrical system. In your case we are probably talking RFI interference...unless you are not using solid-state ballasts. Relocating the ballasts may help. It pays to use either the ESI kit or the BRP option. These are tested to perform properly when installed in accordance with the instructions.

The SE5's can get all kinds of weird shifting problems with a ballast that causes interferance. :yikes:

We have seen this first hand while researching ballasts on our very own SE5.

The fact that your machine performs normally without the HIDs in place is almost a sure bet that the ballasts are causing the shifting problems you are having.
