HEY BRP! give me a break!

So the mechanic at the dealership is telling me that the BRP tech says my RT has lost the power steering due to the ESI led brake light we installed back in June. Isn't that swell? The light that has been on there all summer no problems! Now all of the sudden, that's the reason my spyder quit steering. It's been in the shop for 6 days now and I'm furious that that's BRP's brilliant solution. :banghead:

I would not blame BRP for this until I found out for sure.

It sounds to me: like the mechanic is trying to blow smoke up your tailpipe.

I would start by talking to the owner of the business. See what he/she has to say instead of the the disinterested staff.

If you still get the run around--it might be time for some free advertising for the dealership.

First I am assuming that you installed your HMT Brake light correctly , Then You need to find a competent dealership that can service your :ani29:As the dealership experience can either make or break your :ani29: ownership experience JHMO:yikes:

But could it be that all summer they were OK, Now there not function

It's easy enough to unhook and test the theory. If the steering still doesn't work, you can blow some smoke up your tech's tailpipe. If the steering works reliably, the HMT was at fault. Stranger things have happened with CANBus systems and seemingly unrelated electronics malfunctions. I'd reserve judgement until you test the theory. nojoke

He does not have alot of options of dealers though. He lives on Long Island, NY so if he drives north, south or east he will end up in the Atlantic Ocean. It's not a Sea Doo ya know. :roflblack:

Custom Dynamics and ESI sell this product and not at a cheap price either. I would contact ESI and tell them what the dealer said and see what they say.nojoke

Thanks for your responses. Just to clear some things up... The dealer is just doing what BRP tells him he has to do. He has to follow what they say or he doesn't get paid. That's how warranty work goes. The BRP tech tells him it's the ESI light, he has to work on the light, period. I am not going to yell at the owner of the dealership because the guy is doing his job. I already left a BAD dealership, so I know what one looks like, but like one poster mentioned, I live on an ISLAND, so my choices are VERY limited. :sour: I only get mad at a dealership when they lie to me repeatedly or damage my vehicle (both happened at the first place). Now since it seems NOBODY on Spyderlovers has lost power steering due to their auxiliary brake light (and there are many hundreds of us) I am really suspicious of this diagnosis from BRP. I paid too much for this machine to be sitting inside the house AGAIN while the last of the good weather passes me by and my friends are out riding. I will be contacting Carlo tomorrow. This is not the first time my Spyder has let me down.:gaah:

Well then... Have the mechanics tried disconnecting the offending brake light yet? :dontknow: That's the question that perhaps you ought to ask them...
(Long Island may very well be unlike any other Island on the Planet as far as access to services and resources...:thumbup

I am not calling your dealership a liar, but you might want to double check what the mechanic says. Two weeks after I bought my spyder I noticed a scrape on the edge of a rim, and knowing I did not do it took the byke to the dealership. They said the will talk to BRP about replacing it on warranty. At first I was like great the dealership is taking care of me, as I really figured I was up a creek because of how long it took me to see the scrape. About 1.5 weeks later the dealership called and said that BRP won't replace it. By this time I remembered the pics my wife took of me picking up the byke. Upon enlarging a pic I was able to see the scrap, and after getting the rejection call I stopped by with a copy on a cd. This was on a Thursday, suddenly on the following Tuesday they called and said they took it up the BRP ladder, and now BRP will cover it under the warranty.

Hey, it's your riding friends.
If I remember correctly, you didn't have any problems with power steering until you first used the heated seat. That being said, I doubt it's the brakelight. Maybe you should call Corbin and ask them if they have any thoughts.
Also, if the dps is already bad, disconnecting add-ons won't make a difference.
Hope it gets resolved soon. We still have riding time ahead.

That was the first dealership. That's the one we won't go to anymore. Now we're giving Formula One Motorsports in Oakdale a try.

My implication in my first response was that I thought your mechanic was feeding you a line. Did he really talk with BRP, and did BRP really tell him that it was the aftermarket installation that was the root of your problem.

This is not the first shop that tried to get out of the responsibility of a repair by ultimately blaming BRP.

Ooooooooooh! Two paragraphs from me defending BRP--I don't usually go that direction. :roflblack:
