Headlight replacement

I just replaced my OEM halogen headlights with Sylvania Silverstar halogen 9005's at a cost of about $30. I considered LEDs but the $95 cost stood in the way. Was this a mistake?

I wouldn't say it was a mistake. I was going to do the same thing until the post by "Joel the biker" about LED headlights he had bought.

They cost about $32 or $33 and so far I'm extremely happy with mine!

Not a mistake you have upgraded and depending on the ryding you do you are fine. The whole brighter during daylite hours eludes me as many drive with polorized sunglasses have tinted windsheld and as I see it the best daylight defense is the neon vests. I use the same bulb and the light provided is all I need for driving in the dawn and dusk hours. I avoid night driving as much as possible. :thumbup:

I replaced mine with the Lamonster LED's very bright and more of a white light than the yellow ones it had. The only problem is they seem to be aimed too high and overshoot the close stuff. I need to run my fog lights to fill in. My fog lights are yellow light though.

Time will tell. I have not liked the low life of the OEM style bulbs on my 2014. After two burnouts--I replaced with LED's. The jury is out at this time. :bbq::bbq:

No. Compared to your OEM halogens the Silverstar gives a much brighter, whiter light. The tradeoff is that it will have a shorter life so be prepared for that.

As to LED's, they are more expensive as you noted and experience has shown they don't last as long as LED's are supposed to last. I'd say if the Silverstars give you satisfactory light output, be happy with them.

It's not a mistake, just not the best choice.
The Sylvania Siverstars are bright, but it come at the cost of longevity.
They seem to last about 300 hours.
For a car, that's a lot of night time driving.
For a motorcycle, with the lights on during the day, that's maybe one season.

I did the same thing. Would do it again. Especially knowing that if my one spare bulb is used, I can always get another one very easily while on the road.
