Has anybody wired the Zumo 550 to the RT-S Audio System

I'd like to use Zumo 550 audio into the RT-S audio system and still run my IPOD. The Zumo 550 has the 3.5 mm stereo outlet, but there doesn't seem to be a way to input the Zumo into the RT-S audio except for the 3.5 mm Auxiliary input in the rear trunk. I'd like to use that for the IPOD integration cable and hook up the Zumo audio separately.
The entertainment harness doesn't seem to have the 3.5 mm audio input.

I'd hate to have to go with the BRP Zumo 660, especially since my 550 is working very well for me.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I use the MP3 player in my Zumo plus the XM radio option, which gives me the best of all worlds. I've never missed the iPod that came with my Spyder.

I have run a stereo audio cable from the Zumo (mounted at the center of my handlebars), to the rear trunk, where I mounted a female stereo jack about 2" below the Aux input jack. I then added a 90-degree end (with shrink wrap) to the cord from the jack I mounted & the Aux input so it won't stick out into the trunk and get bent or broken from contents in the trunk.

I can't help you, either. I ran the GPS output to my Starcom1 comm system, and use the iPod for the Spyder stereo.

I integrated my Zumo 550 using the BRP GPS accessory cable that plugs in to a socket just in front of the right side bag. (under the tupperwhare)

There is a video on this site in two parts showing the installation and somewhere a post the with the part part number for the cable. Your dealer should be able to explode the parts catelog diagram to find the cable.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that out next week.

I learned a valuable lesson. The BRP intercom/CB system is FAR superior to the Starcom. The Starcom may be an excellent choice if no other one is available, such as on an RS.

The reason why it's much better is that it integrates with the bike stereo and I can use the switches on the handlebar for complete control.

I should have done this from the start. Well worth the added expense.

Just my opinion. Take it for what you feel it's worth.

I can understand why many people would feel that way. I am a relic. I don't think I have used the integrated control a dozen times in these seven months of ownership. I guess I'm not a "control freak". :roflblack:

adapter cable...

Do you happen to have the part number for the BRP short adapter cable? I can't seem to find a listing for this part. I purchased a Garmin 660 which includes the "motorcycle cable", but this needs the cable that BRP includes when they sell the kit.

This is the one I'm getting. I'm assuming it's the right one.

P8 GPS Adaptor Harness 710 002 182

It's $65.00

SteveO,
What did you use for the audio out cable from the base to the adapter cable? How long was it? For my similar 450 that I installed on my Gold Wing I had an intercom interface from Kennedy Tech. and a cable with rt angle 3.5 mm at the base end and a two pin connector for the IC interface on the other end, 72" long. I was thinking I could cut the 2-pin connector off and install a female receptacle for the adapter cable male connector.
TIA,
Phil
PS: My RT-S SE5 is to arrive this week. Bye-Bye Gold Wing.

Thanks for the info, and keep me posted.

PerfectO

Thanks to SteveO for the tip.

The Zumo cradle has a female jack that takes a male plug. You could simply run a 3.5 mm extension cord to the GPS adapter cable. I had a male/male cable with an integrated filter, so I needed a simple gender bender, but either way it works great. I had to have the red and black power wires capped and taped since I already had power run to the GPS from a switched source.

This really is a better solution than the Starcom.

All I need to do now is find some sort of small bluetooth earbud and I can still get phone calls while I ride.

Boy does that sound stupid.

I see your point, but the most likely reason you haven't used the integrated control is because you can't use it.

Just today, I was able to adjust the VOX controls and intercom volume on the fly so my daughter and I could converse. There is also complete control over the CB, again on the fly, so I can turn it on or off depending on who I'm riding with and how much background chatter might be around.

The downside of the whole system is that now SHE has control of the music we listen to. But even then, i found that I can mute out all the music from my headset, and she can listen to her hearts content, and vice versa. The intercom stays active.

Very cool system. If anybody knows any more tips, please post them.

Please don't put words into my mouth or make assumptions on what I do and why. :D

I don't use the control for a couple of reasons, and they have nothing to do with function. I only have the audio system, so I have fewer things I can change, but I would be unlikely to adjust them them, either. I don't use the controls, in part, because I seldom have the need for them, even the volume control. All I ever seem to use is the mute function. I set what I want before I ride, put the iPod on "random", and I go. The reason for this is simple...I do not like things that distract me from the task of riding. That includes fiddling with the knobs, reading a display for options or to see what song is playing, or just looking down at the display or controls to see what button I am supposed to push, and which way. I ride 25 different motorcycles, and I am not capable of memorizing the controls for each in that amount of detail. Like I said, I am a relic! I guess modern technology is wasted on relics. :D
