hard bags for 2008 RS ?

I am in the market for hard bags for my 2008 Spyder RS. I have seen Givi and Can Am bags. Corbin are too pricey. I know the Can Am bags are made by Givi. Which are better and easier to install?

Thanks,

Craig

I have the Can-Am version, but I believe they are both a PITA to installnojoke

I'd find the best price and go with that.

The Can-Am rack comes w/ a tool to remove 3 bolts to remove the rack.
Don't recall if the Givi's do that, but still a pain to install initially.

If you want easy to install definately get the Givi from them not brp the ones from brp imo are a pain If you need to work on your bike under the back wheel you have to remove the rack and unbolt the 2 bolts that hold the turn signal stalk on it's doable but a pain so i ordered the ones from givi and they are simple to install i did not hook up the turn signals i ordered the high mount turn signals from tricled they work great and they are a sponser of this site. goodluck which ever you choose. ;)

Same bags in both instances. Most differences are in the racks. The Givi racks are probably easier to mount. There are slight differences in the positioning of the bags. The BRP bags cost more.

Givi:
Fixed, tubular racks
Turn signals mount on rear fender
Limited selection of color panels

BRP:
Removable, tubular racks
Turn signals mount on extensions (near original location)that support racks
All colors of finish panels available.

Nancy has the BRP racks, and they are really slick. We would buy them again.

I would have recommended the Industries 7 Givi rack if they were still in business. It was a very simple mount and the turn signals stayed mounted in the stock location on the side panel. Sometimes I miss my I7 Givi rack and bags.

Roadkrome Sturgis bags are very solid mounts, not bad hardbags.

following the format:

Fixed heavy steel "wing shaped" racks (lockable hard bags themselves are easy to remove)
Turn signals mount on included but optional extensions that mount to the racks (I left them in the stock position and like it that way)
You can have any color you want as long as it's flat black.
I paid ~$550 shipped. Installation was fairly easy.

I'd like to note that the brackets and bags survived a complete rollover of the spyder. There are slight scuffs on the plastic that I think I might just leave there to remind me of the rollover. These bags and brackets actually saved a good deal of damage to the spyder. The brackets did flex a bit on impact but rebounded back to original shape and position without being bent. It's some seriously heavy metal.

I think your decision comes down to appearance and convenience of removable racks. Tho these are slightly cheaper.

Search around for my other thread for more details

Go with the BRP version-- way better setup than the GIVI...... You certainly can work on the spyder with the racks still on--- there isn't much you do back there anyway. Getting to the battery requires removing one of the rack mounts-- but I doubt the GIVI is any better.

BRP :2thumbs:

Firefly is right on this. I have the Givi racks. They do not prevent me from working on anything but the battery, and then I just need to remove the rack on that side. Is it a pain? Yes, but both rack designs have that limitation.

One more thing. The Givi racks are known for rubbing the rear fender supports.... Now.. this may or may not be the case with the BRP racks, but I know of a few of us that had the Givis do it.

However - In order to get the Givi's to rub the supports, I was fully loaded with luggage in side and top cases, and put the spyder on two wheels... and I don't mean a few inches of lift, but about a foot and a half..:yikes:. My theory is that when the spyder came down, it came down hard enough and twisted a bit as we kept on moving down the road... That was enough to cause the rub. It didn't dent anything, and is just cosmetic. That is all. If you don't do any hard riding of the Spyder, you'll probably be just fine with the Givi racks so my advice is still go with what ever one has the best price.

FYI - Givi's North American HQ is here in Charlotte, NC and my dealer is very pleased with them.

The racks may contribute to the fender bracket cracks but I know many a Spyder that never had any rear rack installed and the fender brackets and the fender bracket mounts on the swingarm cracked / broke. My wife's Spyder was one of them. We finally removed her rear fender after we got tired of fixing it.

Get the BRP GIVI bags...period...they are made for the bike and fit the bike perfectly. They look great and are functional.

The racks are really amazing...they come off quickly and go back on with the bags in a matter of a minute or two. I wouldn't go any other way...they're made for our bike...it only makes sense that they'd be matched for our needs.

You can also get the colored panels so the match is perfect...

The cracks are not related to the rubbing. It only happened to me just that one time.

I JUST installed my BRP bags tonight and it went better than I thought. It took about 3.5 hours without help.
As Firefly has indicated they are a PITA to install and the instructions are for the most part useless.
I have to say they look GREAT!!! I was thinking about getting the Roadkrome bags to save some bucks but I'm glad I spent a bit more for the BRP's. This set up is way cool and popping off the mounting brackets is a breeze.
Bottom line.. I am VERY pleased with these bags and cant wait to try them out on the road... IF IT WOULD EVER STOP :cus: SNOWING!!!!!

I got a great price on my bags and they were installed by the dealership...this is a nice way to go, IMHO...

Regardless, I'm glad you got yours done...they look awesome, eh?

Yes they do look very good. This was the 1st time I've seen a bike "in person" with them installed and I'm not dissapointed.

I also debated on buying the color matching skins and just going black. Bottom line.... BUY THE SKINS!!! They really make the whole package look like they are supposed to be there.
Anyway.. that's my 2+ cents!!! Cheers..

Ive got the I7 rack with the Givi V35 bags.

Very sturdy rack and have had no problems with it. The Turn signals get moved from the rear panels to a similar location on the rack. To get at the battery, I need to either loosen most of the connectors on that side of the rack, or remove it. A pain, but not impossible.

Being BRP has the exact color match, it makes sense to go this way. My rear hard case 47L Givi is glossy black...but it still looks good...I considered painting some of it to match the yellow, but the glossy black matches the bike as is...

I have the Can Am bags there is no problem with removing the racks!! takes less than a 1/2 turn with the tool they give you and you have removed them. Had lots of bike and bags this is one of the better ones

I had been into my back wheel many times it is not an issue:spyder:

But did you take off the side panel to get at your battery? That is the rub. :D

Any idea what kind of rack is that? Have only one but 2 bags so i have to buy one or make one if it's possible.IMG20210310154834.jpg

:welcome: and :congrats: on your first post.

Might be difficult getting a good answer from this particular thread. This particular thread goes back to 2011. The RS and GS models are now long gone from the line up, as well as the 990 twin engine. I owned both a 08 and an 09 and had the Givi bags installed on both. I wanted the Corbins, but they were another $500 USD more than the Givi. I had my dealer install both sets. There was some modifications that had to be done with the lighting, but once installed they added to the looks as well as function of the Spyder.

At this point in time, you are probably going to have to search for used stuff or make something up. Good luck in your hunt.
