Guess I will have to shop for new insurance

As others have experienced, I received a shocker today. I had a 2011 RT and went to a 2014 ST. My insurance company wants $119+ more per year. When I asked why (because MSRP is lower) I was told it had to do with theft rate, number of accidents on the ST, etc., etc. Yes, my insurance company is going to go to bat for me, but asked me to check and see what kind of thefts, accidents, etc are happening with the STs.

Any information will be helpful for me to fight my way to a reasonable rate. Yes, I will be price shopping.

Lots of insurance rates are changing - and not to our benefit. However, you may be able to get an umbrella liability policy that will lower your cost for all the rest of your policies, giving you an overall lower cost. We're going to have to get creative, or just carry liability and take the risk.

I've had no tickets, accidents, or warnings in over 30 years, and my auto rates with up 40% this year. Using an umbrella liability policy, my overall rates dropped 15%.

Won't work everywhere, but worth a shot.

Ouch..!!

interesting because they should have all those records if they are stating that as the reason for the increase. They usually keep up with dmv reports and police records. Maybe all the press on the 2013's heat/fire has got them thinking all have this risk..collateral damage...:banghead::banghead: always can shop around anyway...

Sorry to hear your dilemma with the insurance company. The rates are going to be all over the place.

When I traded my 2010 RTS, the insurance rate went from $480 per year to $576 per year on the 2014 RT-S. That was a 20% increase from my friends at State Farm. I get group discounts because I have three vehicles and my home insured with them.

RE: Accidents and thefts. There have been few to none accidents and thefts reported on the ST model that were posted on the SL site. RE: 2013 model--not sure how many fires on the ST, but believe it is less than 5.

Its a good idea to shop around for rates for all your insured items (house, car, etc) every few years because you may get a good rate at the time, but they tend to creep the prices up just a little each year. I am down to 11.00 a month for full coverage on my 2012 RS SE5. I just changed insurance company's a few weeks ago and I am with Allstate on everything now. Some people are die hard on a particular company because they may have treated them great at one time and don’t mind paying their inflated rates.

Rider Insurance the way to go

Received my renewal from Rider Insurance today, almost had a heart attack. ........... The cost for my 2015 annual policy went down to $380 from $465.00 in 2014 with a $250 / $500 deductible and $8,000 worth of farkle coverage. Who ever heard of Insurance Policy going down?

Thank you, I have had an umbrella for several years. I will be checking with others.

It's all in where you live. I moved in 2014 to a town 1/3 the size, and in a "rural" county. My insurance went up 14%, just for that.

I have found the exact opposite having a Liability Umbrella. The reason is with an LU there is a REQUIRED minimum underlying limit for Liabilty, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist for all your other vehicles insurance (car, boat, MC, Trike). I'm with Traveler's. They require a minimum $300,000.00 as the underlying limits. Some stand alone MC insurance companies will write a $500,000 CSL policy for that, others will not. Bottom Line is that if you have an LU, check the policy requirements, or call your agent.
Traveler's doesn't write MC policies, so my ins. co. uses PROGRESSIVE. There's another thread here: 2014 RT Limited Insurance, (I think) that has a lot of insurance info. Just remeber what on person says his/her rate is, there's no way to compare.

My 2 cents

I at $473 - 2014 ST-S full coverage which is $20 more than I pay for my 2010 F150 Lariat Special...not great, but discounts help...those two and a trailer.

So, about $190 per month for all...not sure if it's the greatest, but it's definitely not the worse. :spyder:

FYI...I even work as a programmer for an ins comp and still do not understand all of the processes they go through to determine the cost for individuals. Probably secret mind reading devices...ALIENS....RUUUUUUN...kidding. What I do know, there's some good advice above (and below later)...checking around is probably the best.

Switched to Dairyland motorsports Insurance, same coverage, saved $200 per year.

I wish.... when I called Dairyland they wanted $94 more a year that my current. Contacted a few others for quotes and when I talked with my insurance company again about taking the motorcycle policy elsewhere I was told my Umbrella would go up 50% as a penalty for not having all my stuff in one place.

They have us coming and going don't they?:yikes:

Dragonfly - I have Rider also and they policy and rates are GREAT !!! Far better than anywhere else I looked and less then half of what I was paying to have the Spyder on my main "multi-vehicle" policy. And, the fact that they cover "full value" plus farkles is unheard of anywhere else.

Every time a Spyder burns, gets stolen, and have accidents, and the price of parts go up,the price of labor is going up and with the rise of uninsured drivers. This will increase the price of insurance.

Linda I was with GEICO for 30 years and when I went to insure the V8 trike 2 years ago they gave me a run around and had to get supervisor approval and such. I did a little shopping around while they made up their mind and found out Progressive would insure all 4 bikes for $350 a year, 2 Valkyries, Spyder, (Full coverage) and liability on the trike. I had been paying over $700 a year on the 2 Valks and Spyder it was a no brainer, I Switched. I should add I just renewed for the 3rd year and the price may ave went up 2-3 dollars.
