• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

GPS Lock

Uhm...Yeah.. it will break the unit if pulled hard. It is a standard laptop security cable though and those are real easy to cut. That said, GPS and phone thefts are usual targets of opportunity so they'd probably just break it along with damaging what ever anchor point you used on the bike.

I just pop mine out of the mount and put in my pocket.

Yup--- takes 2 seconds to pop it off and throw into the trunk.

Agreed...I actually got the lock for the cradle as that is likely to get stolen as well. Garmin, for about $25.00, makes a funny looking thingy that is used instead of one of the nuts and it locks the cradle onto the handlebar...no way to get the cradle off...for a few bucks, well worth it...otherwise, your cradle could disappear some time.

I agree that it only takes a couple of seconds but the older I get the more I forget. Unfortunately, that only takes a nanosecond. IMO, on "quick stops" like going in to pay for gas, it's not worth the effort. Also, in inclement weather the contacts are exposed to the elements...not sure if that's a big deal or not

Touratech makes a lock that looks secure but not cheap. I just need to decide how much "insurance" on an $800 GPS is worth. They make locks for just about any GPS unit

I can only speak for the Garmin 660 as a motorcycle GPS. It comes with a little waterproof cover thingy that you replace the GPS unit with in the base. The cover protects the contacts. This is a major issue if your unit is not wired to the ignition switch -- which shuts it off when the ignition is off. If you are wired directly, you better have some way to protect the base or you might find your Spyder shorted out completely.
