• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Got the custom seat done

I brought my Spyder in for a custom seat job yesterday. As many of you have probably noticed, the stock seat has a crown in the center that makes for some butt-pain after a certain amount of riding time. For me, it was about 45 minutes.

Anyway, the guy that did it is Don Weber from Mr. Ed's Moto (www.mredsmoto.com). He charged me $450. His focus was mainly on the driver seat portion as I typically don't carry a passenger. He can build using whatever materials, colors, and stitching you might want. I used a carbon fiber pattern vinyl for the seat base and plain black vinyl for the trim. You'll notice how the stitching lines follow the flow of the Spyder lines. Don is VERY meticulous and does a great job. If you're not happy with the result, he'll continue to make adjustments until you are.

You can bring your Spyder to his shop (not so conveniently located in Albany, Oregon), or ship the seat to him for the conversion. He's usually booked out a couple months in advance, so plan accordingly.

Needless to say, I love the new seat. It's very comfortable and supports where it should. I'll also mention this is the 5th seat Don has done for me. He's done most of the motorcycles I've owned. No, I don't get discounts for referrals. He's just that good.

I posted pics on that "other Spyder forum". I couldn't figure out how to do it here.

Looks good by the way :2thumbs:

My butt gets to hurting after about 700 miles or so too. :doorag:

Isn't it funny how everyone's shape reacts differently to seat contours? The stock Spyder seat is the most comfortable I have ever ridden. I can easily go twice as far without squirming a bit. The telephone shape seems to suit my skinny rear. Contoured seats that are low in the middle, on the other hand, always put my legs to sleep in a few short miles. Its great that we have some folks out there that can customize seats to suit our individual needs.

The best stock seat I've ever had was on a 2006 Buell Ulysses. I could ride that forever. Then in 2007 they lowered it because the 2006 was too tall for most folks. Unfortunately, it ruined that beautiful seat! But you could still get the 2006 model seat for your 2007 in the amazing HD/Buell lifestyle parts catalog.

I have an Ultimate seat on my Valkyrie and it would be great if they took on the Spyder. I put over 800 miles on it the day after I bought it and it was painless. Since then I've done 1000 mile days with no problem. I must admit that the greatest benefit is the backrest, without it your mileage may vary.

NautiBrit - I know for FACT that Des / Ultimate is making a Spyder seat. Like everything else Ultimate makes, you can bet the Ultimate Spyder seat will be road worthy!
