• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Got a DESS code - any other solutions besides replacing the ignition?

Hello. I am new to this group. Just purchased a 2014 RT Limited. After a couple of weeks, I started to get the DESS code, and the bike would not start. I have been told that the ignition needs to be replaced at a cost of $800-$900. I would like to know if there is another solution to this problem. Is there a way to cancel this code? I would appreciate any help!! Thank you.

Hi Greg, welcome to the Forum, posting, & the Wonderful World of Spyders! :welcome:

There's already a WHOLE LOT of info here about the DESS code issues on 2014+ Spyders, so you really should just type 'DESS' into the Search field (just up toward the Top Right of your screen a bit, & below the Lamonster Garage logo... ;) ); tick the 'Search Titles Only' box in the drop-down list that'll appear below that; submit the search; and then have a bit of a read - you'll fairly quickly see that the most common answer to your question is just to disable the DESS.

It ALWAYS pays to do some searching before starting a new thread, cos there really isn't too much that hasn't already been asked & answered about Spyders in the almost 15 or so years that this Forum has been around. ;) So if you do a search & spend a little time reading, there's a very good chance that at the very least, you'll get some background info on your question, if not maybe even answer it entirely! :2thumbs:

Don't be afraid of adding to an older thread either, there's nothing wrong with doing that if you're adding knowledge &/or experience to the database, or if you're seeking further info, just don't necessarily expect the earlier posters in an older thread to answer any specific questions quickly (or even if at all! :p ), especialy if the dates on the originating post &/or the last few posts in an older thread show that they were posted too much more than a couple of years ago - you should always check the dates on those posts & at least have a skim thru the thread before posting anything, anyway!! And don't expect answers from anyone with a Red or Grey username either - those colours show that those users are no longer here/currently active - but give it a bit, someone will answer eventually, most likely once they get back from riding their Spyder or when they need a Spyder fix cos they can't ride right now... It might not happen overnight, but it probably will happen!

And if you do get as far as needing to start a new thread, it REALLY helps not only the people who might be able to help you now if they can see what Year/Model Spyder/Ryker you are ryding, and what you want to know, but it also helps anyone who might be searching for the same sort of info in the future; so please, try to briefly ask your question in the thread title or at least tell your potential readers what you expect from the thread and make sure you include the Year/Model of your Spyder/Ryker in the text, or better yet, follow the instructions in post #4 of this Sticky:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums...l-Add-your-Spyder-Year-model-to-your-Sig-Line!

It also always pays to read any Sticky's you might find at the top of a Forum Section/sub-forum. :ohyea:
