There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Good and Bad Day

I began my day going on a 180 mile Poker Run ride. I'm getting used to my Spyder and loving the ride through the desert. I was very happy that I was getting used to the turns and how comfortable I felt.

A little before half way I was taking off from a stop sign and the bike began to jerk. I looked up the codes and it said something about the gears slipping. So from what I learned from this forum is to take the key and walk away for a few minutes. I did that and it was fine afterwards. After about another 50 miles I was going about 55 mph and it started downshifting by itself. I managed to find a spot to pull over. The walking away trick didn't work this time and now the Spyder would only go into neutral or reverse. It wouldn't go into any other gear.

With no cell service in the desert my husband had to drive off to find a signal to call for help. AAA came and towed it to our nearest dealer and there she sits. When I told the mechanic what happened he said, "I never heard of that before."

Has anyone else heard of it downshifting while riding along?

I am not sure, but think I remeber another thread about this issue.:dontknow:Hopefully someone will chime in that also remembers it or was involved? Wish I could help more.Sounds like a bad shift sensor, (not sure that is the correct name) but that is just a guess!

Sounds like mine

Had similar problems with my 2012 RT-S SE5. BUDS indicated that it was losing communications with the transmission control module. Bike would up and downshift on its own when sitting at idle with no one on board, not to mention doing the same while riding. Worst incident was when I started to accelerate from a stop light and it shifted into reverse. :( Dealer replaced, at different times, a voltage regulator and left switch gear. Last time they replaced the transmission control module and I put another 2000 miles on it without further incident. It still had an occasional clunk but overall was working. Certainly can't complain about BRPs response, but, can complain about how long it takes to get parts from them.

Traded it in for a '14 SM6 last week at the same dealer and couldn't be happier.

Hope they find it and get you back on the road quickly.

Sounds like..!!

you have an se model. Those semi automatics can be touchy at times. Oil level and condition is important with them. Gear positioning sensors do go out and the indicator shows different gear positons but dosen't usually shift the gears. But if the communications break down to the computer indicating rpm/mph then the shifting can occur. Glad you were in a safe place and able to get it towed...let us know what they find....

Were you seeing an "E", where the gear indicator normally is? :dontknow:
My guess without further information: Gear Position Sensor...

Thanks, Bob. There was an "E" in the beginning when the problem first started but then it disappeared. I will let the mechanic know all these suggestions to hopefully give him a starting place.

Ready for pick up!

The service department just called and they said that it was the Gear Position Sensor. He said it had been installed incorrectly and had come loose. They reset it and now it runs fine. I'm so glad that they didn't have to order parts and that I didn't have to wait for 6 weeks like I have heard some of the members of this forum have had to.

This was one of the service departments in my area that I wanted to test their Spyder ability and so far they have passed - Apache Motorcycles in Mesa, AZ.

Good deal. I was curious about the outcome of this. Thanks for the follow up.

:congrats: on what turned out to be a realtively easy repair! It's just a shame that it had to happen in the first place...
