• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Gold Plug company has introduced a hex head drain plug, M14 x 1.5 for the 1330 engine oil sump. It can be found here:http://goldplug.com/shop/mp18/.

They also have the hex head M12 x 1.5 plug for the transmission that can be found here: http://goldplug.com/shop/mp01/.

Both plugs are stainless steel and have magnets. I have not yet purchased either as I'm a still long poke to my next oil change.

Curious..!!

I think gold plug and dimple use socket heads. Both drain plugs have super magnets on the dimple and both are stainless steel. Dimples come with extra crush washers...:thumbup:

Yes, the OEM trans plug is 6 mm Allen. Oil sump is T45 Torx. FWIW, when I did my first oil change after the dealer's 3K service (4400 later) both my plugs were virtually virgin. Dealer apparently had no problem with initial removal nor did I. I do agree with most folks here too on the longevity of hex head over Torx and Allen but using the proper quality tools and torquing reduces the risk of damage to all.

Dangit Jay, I ordered the Dimples last week and now you come up with the Golds that are considerably cheaper! I buggered up the main drain plug on my first oil change long ago but decided I might as well put in some plugs that can't be buggered. :)

Also, and this was true on our machine. The broaching for the Allen hex and Torx was not great. With hand pressure it was not possible to engage the wrench fully. I used a few light taps to seat the tools. I did not do the hit the plug to break it free, simply ensured full engagement of the Allen or Torx wrench.

Mike, I assume you want to buy one plug to add a second magnet. The oem Allen headed drain plug is the short one and has the magnet. The long special drain plug has the Torx head and does not have the magnet.

................I never had an issue with the ALLEN PLUG, because I could use an allen socket.......for some reason the TORX socket never had the BITE that the allen had and would always slip............So I'm going to get NEW Longer GOLD plug with the HEX HEAD .......:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:....Mike

I would not be too upset that you bought the Dimples. They are a very high quality part, USA made also. Not bagging on the Gold Plugs, I don't believe you will be disappointed, in the Dimple drain plugs, but do understand they cost more.

Sorry, Ted. I received word just last evening about the new oil sump plug after I had told them a couple of months ago that the oil sump plug they were advertising on the web wouldn't fit. They were working on both production and updating their web site and now have it done.
 
I bought the Dimple set to install at my next oil change. I found the OEM bolts to be reallllllllly soft. :banghead: For me, the Allen got stuck in the bolt because the material was so soft it started to round. I didn't have my torque wrench, so I don't know what the installation torque settings were, but by the wrist calibration method, it felt okay. Just soft material. Dimple OTOH is really nice stuff and what the manufacturer can't do because of scale of production.

I just had my oil changed at the dealership on my 2015 RTS, the 3000 mile first service, and I had them install the Dimple Drain plugs. I just didn't want it to be a problem when I started doing my own oil changes as far as stripping the allen head holes out. General question though. I noticed on the repair work order that they charged my for 5 O-rings. I know the Dimple Drain plugs don't come with the O-rings but where would they use 5 O-rings? I do have the part numbers if that would help with solving my question.

If all O-rings are replaced during an oil change there are five new ones used, three on the oil filter canister cap (one large, two small) and two on the oil sump plug. Some techs don't change all five but inspect and replace only what's needed because of wear. I'm not saying that's right, just that the situation exists. Do be aware too that the threads on the oil sump plug are VERY sharp. Wrap the threads with masking tape before installing new O-rings.
 
Dimple

I put Dimple plugs on Ann and Robin's bikes. High quality parts. IDK the other ones, but I know the stock plugs are much too soft. I like the powerful magnets on the dimple plugs, too. Joe

Thank you so much for posting this as I could not find it in the service manual and test fitting in an awkward position is difficult. I just completed my first 3K oil change; thanks again to forum participants and information that helps us all.
