Going To Finally Buy A Spyder But Need Your Help

Hello Everyone,

I am new here and have been looking at Spyder's for about a year now and I am ready to buy one but I am not sure if I should go with new or used. I like the price of used but do not like no warranty and as for the new it has the warranty but the price is much more.

I have found a nice used one but not sure what to look for on a used Spyder.

The used one I am looking at is a 2013 RT-S SE5 and it has 9000 miles on it and the dealer is asking $17,999.00. It looks to be in very good condition and I cannot find any issues with it but not sure what to look for on it. Also the dealer will put on a new rear tire on due to the ware on it for N/C

I am also looking at a 2015 RT Limited brand new with 3 year warranty and the dealer is asking $22 and change.

Any feedback or input is welcome please.

Thanks in advance for you help.

If you get the 2013 make sure it had had the heat update. They were hot boxes. As for the 2015 it had the larger engine and no problems to speak of. I went from a 13 to a 14 and love it!

If there was an extended warranty when it was bought new, it may still be in force. If not, try to negotiate with the dealer for them to provide a warranty on it to induce you to buy. Also, make sure all the warranty work has been done on the '13.

Or, look for a new, left over '14 or a used '14. IMHO you'll like the '14 or newer performance a lot better.

look at this one

:welcome:.....Go to the 4 sale forum..( here )......the Ad is 20 down from the top by rev-r dated 1-01-16......on a 2014 RT - LTD - SE,6 .......this sold for about $30,000 and with the extra's another $1,500 added.....So it's a bargain at the asking price......I have owned three and this engine and transmission package is by far the best of all of them........Mike ............PS the shipping wouldn't be expensive on this either .....Mike

no doubt...get the 2015
work hard to get them to throw in a 3 year BEST extended warranty as part of the deal
My dealer admitted his cost is $700...he agreed to sell it to me for $750 when I asked/insisted once he agreed to the lowest price he'd sell the bike
you can still purchase it as long as your machine is under warranty down the road, however

Another vote for the 15. Because of heat issues, the 2013's were selling way below your dealers suggested retail price. The heat issues are now fixed...but not the price.

Let's see your having difficulty deciding between a 2013 for $17,999 or a 2015 for $22, that seems like a no brainer to me... save $17,977 and get a newer model with a bigger engine. I know it was a typo but I couldn't resist. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

On a serious note... Go for the 2015. You may pay a few grand more on the front side but you'll save more in the long run due to longer service intervals.

:welcome: If the 2015 is an RT Limited it's MSRP was $31,000, so at $22,000 that is a really good deal and a warranty! Year end deals are usually pretty good!!
Good luck with whatever you choose!!!

I agree

I agree with what everyone else has been saying. They 14's and 15's are worlds better than the 13's in many ways. Most reasons have already been mentioned, so I won't elaborate.

Welcome welcome....

Choices choices. ..test ryde both the twin and the triple, check your budget and go from there. tough I know....but fun..:ohyea:

Looking at the WTB section there are some great pricing some are selling and are the 1330 models with warranty..Just a Thought:thumbup:

you gonna save more money in the long run with the 1330 vs the 990 in maintenance plus better gas mileage as well.

NEW RT ltd. 22K? That sounds almost like a no brainer. You will probably save the
difference in service costs over the life of the machine.

and you will have all of that 1330 benefit.

At $17,999 the 2013 isn't worth it. I just bought my 2014 RTS with 654 miles for that price. Now if you can wait for a few weeks I'll have my 2013 RT base model with 25K on it available for $13,000 or less!

:welcome: Everyone will have an opinion about which bike to buy; YOUR opinion is the only one that matters!
The truth is: having ANY Spyder beats having none, and by a long shot! nojoke The 998-equipped bikes might require more maintenance, and have some protocols that must be followed... But they're still GREAT bikes.
If you can find one that has overheating issues firmly dealt with, and the price is right: go for it!
(But my opinion is screaming that the 1330s are better bikes! :D)

A $3k difference on a $20k purchase and you get a 3yr. Newer machine with 9k less miles, all the upgrades that have been done, as well as a warranty.
IMHO I wouldn't waste my time even thinking about the 13'. Assuming the $3k is within your budget....
Good luck!
