• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Givi Bag Lights

I have heard that the Custom Dynamics Givi bag lights https://www.customdynamics.com/givi_led_lights.htm won't work on a 2014 STL due to the Can Bus system. Has anyone gotten these to work on a 2014? Or can anyone explain why the Can Bus system interferes? I'm looking for a way to light up the rear for safety.

Update: As it turns out, you can use it with the 2014 STL. You just need to run it as turn / break or run / break / turn, not just as a turn signal

The web site says 2008 to 2013 RS and RS-S models. No mention of the ST at all. If it works on a 2013 ST it should work on a 2014, 15 and 16.

There is no reason ever to connect any accessory to the CAN BUS. Why would lights need to communicate information to/from the rest of the Spyder. It does not make sense. Now if the lights are so electrically noisy that they interfere with the CAN BUS. This would happen to all prior years and RS models as well.

Who told you this? What specifically are the lights suppose to do to the CAN BUS.

A custom dynamics rep over the phone told me.

I don't know a whole lot about the electrical system so I wasn't sure.It does only list compatibility with the RS but I don't see why the ST would be any different.

I'll send them over an email to check again, she could have been wrong.

Just heard back from Custom Dynamics. As it turns out, you can use it with the 2014 STL. You just need to run it as turn / break or run / break / turn, not just as a turn signal, as it would flash fast.

I'm definitely going to give this a try, and maybe I'll take some pictures and post the results.

So it does not have anything to do with CAN BUS

2014 and later ST and RT you can calibrate the current draw and fix the flash speed. By holding down the hazard lights button for 30 seconds or something like that. Someone may post the procedure or do a search.

Very good to know. I never realized that was possible, I am definitely going to look into that.
