There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Gas Premium Octane

I read my manual and it shows the use of 91 octane. In my area the gas pumps are showing 87 - 89 or 93. I guess 93 octane is okay form my 2015 RTS?

Your lucky...

We can only get 91 but the higher the better. You can run on 87 here in the states if you should not find higher...

The bike will actually run on anything that it can get to burn, but it's best to give it at LEAST the octane that is asked for...
The reason: it's a 12:1 engine, and that's a pretty stout "squeeze being put on the mix". nojoke The engine's anti-knock sensors can dial back what it needs, in order to prevent pre-ignition, but you sure won't be getting the best that the engine has to give you!

I ran a little 93 octane when I was a newbie, but for over 100,000 miles now I have run 89 octane without any negative results or noticeable loss of performance

2 SPYD3R's, 990 & 1330, over 65,000 miles, sea level to 18,000 foot elevation, 87 Octane only, and never an issue.....

SORRY

Danny,
Your 990s were designed to run on 87 octane; The 1403s weren't...

SORRY BOBBY, BUT I DON'T BUY THE 91+ OCTANE STORY.....
electronix takes care of any variations....
my 1330 runs just fine with the 87...
my ZZ4 Chevy with 10.5 compression, and my super-charged Jag XF also ran just fine on the 87.... i have to question the entire industry about this fable... YES, non-electronic vehicles would scream the living-hell at you, but since the advent of fuel injection and computers, i just do see the need anymore....
btw; when did BRP introduce the 1403's.... :gaah: i want 1....
just kid'n pal...

Your 990 series engines had a 10.8:1 compression ratio... That's already putting more squeeze to the juice, than your ZZ4...
The 991 engines had a 12.2:1 compression ratio, and the 1403s have one that's 12:1...

Here we go--someone asked in another thread that we discuss only relevant things that were :spyder2: related. Octane threads are perfect.:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

I do put gasoline with Octane in all my :spyder2::spyder2::spyder2::ani29::ani29:. Have been doing so since 2008 and over the course of 130,000 miles.

The highest available in Alaska. 91 Octane. Only one refinery in the state, so all the gas comes from the same place--regardless of brand. I guess each brand fine tunes the fungible liquid by adding their special "secret ingredients."

I tend to use the highest Octane available in all my machines. There have been times when only 87 was available, and the freshness of it was doubted--but--I lived and so did the :spyder2::ani29:

Bottom line--put in what you want. The :ani29: will most likely digest it okay, and your fun quotient of miles will continue.:yes:

Similar

Has anyone else noticed a similarity between Octane threads and Tire threads? No matter how many times they pop up, we still beat them like a dead horse. :bdh:

I asked a simple question, my manual shows 91 octane, and I asked can I use 93 octane. Only looking for yes or no. Thank you.

The mentioned threads are a staple of reading for those who wish to have only :ani29: related reading discussed in our threads. Unfortunately, we cannot have it both ways--as in no tire or octane threads, or only :spyder2: relevant reading.

Most of the time, these threads are started by people that have a genuine question they would like answered by the members.

I think we should cut these people a break and answer their question(s) instead of telling them to search the archives if they want an answer.

Its more fun to ask and see who/what is out there as opposed to going on a tedious search. IMO of course.

Even with a "yes, or no" question; that still leaves room for at least two differing opinions... :banghead:

Octane

I have a 2013 rtl and found a place near my house that has 87 octane non-ethanol...seems to work fine....
