• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

From another forum:

"This will give you 3 inches in height adjustment and 50 degrees of pitch ajustment. This has been fully tested with excellent results.

I’ve been waiting for something like this since the Spyder was delivered!! I ordered one but forgot to ask what it cost!!

I just spoke with Shawn at Importations Thibault and asked him a lot of questions (except cost!!) and I will be glad to answer any questions that I can.

This is the company that came out with the rack for the GIVI bags that a lot of Spyder owners are using - including me. This company does not come out with the product until it is ready so I have total confidence that this shield will work just as advertised.

I'll post some of the points Shawn made a little later.

Here are a few comments that Shawn made in our conversation:

* Production will start immediately and shipping should start within three weeks.
* Cost will be around $350 plus a flat rate shipping cost. Shawn should be posting exact cost soon.
* The rider shown in the picture who tested the shield is 6'1". At 158km/hr (98 mph) he rode with his helmet shield up .. no wind .. no tears. The windshield is shown at its highest setting. I also asked Shawn about buffeting and back pressure. He assured me that there was neither.
* The adjustable mounting bracket is mounted in the OEM windshield holes. Therefore, the windshield doesn't actually sit on the shroud/cowl (whatever you call that big black piece). Because of the design of the Spyder, the wind doesn't actually hit the windshield at its lowest point. At 98mph no wind came up behind the shield and after riding in the rain for about 4 hours, no rain came up the backside of the shield.
* The shield will have a graduated tint ... darker at the bottom to clear at the top.
* At its highest setting, you have a calm quiet ride behind the shield. At it's lowest setting, you will get some good clean air.
* As a disclaiimer .... remember all of the above information is from what Shawn told me and I have no reason to doubt him. I will however do testing as soon as I receive mine. I have bugged him so badly about this shield he will try to send me one of the pre-production models to test it out .... at my cost!!! My only agreement is that he will take a return on this shield when the acutal production models are being shipped.

OH .... one more thing someone is bound to ask.

At its widest point the shield will barely touch the handlebars on a full lock turn ... such as when you turn the Spyder around. It does not touch on a normal 90 degree turn such as going around a corner. This will be corrected on the production shields.

Now we're getting somewhere. The adjustable height is something I didn't even envision, but it is nice. The shape of this one is what excites me. Much closer to what I think is needed. Can't wait for them to land.

Looks good.

Like the idea of graduated tinting.

One quick question, can you still mount a GPS on the top panel?

Second Question, will 3" risers affect the handlebars when turning at the lowest setting?

Very good questions ... not sure about the risers until they are actually tested. I would think not however, since the risers raise higher toward the narrower part of the shield plus they pull back about an inch. Hopefully I will receive my 4" risers about the same time the shield comes in so we will know soon.

If you have your GPS rigid mounted like Lamonts, I'm not sure it will work at the shield's lower settings. If you use the ram mount like most of the ones I've seen mounted, there shouldn't be any problem since my ZUMO actually drops down below the edge of the top panel.

I can't see clearly because of the reflection, but is the shield mounted on sliders attached to the instrument back panel?

If you look carefully at the third picture down, you can see the mounting arms going to the original windshield mounting holes. I would guess the windshield is bolted to a plate which rests on a base plates with some sort of a slider system. It appears to be "raised" a little above the top of the panel.

At this point in the game, they don't want detailed pictures (my thoughts, no what he told me) on the internet until they actually start shipping the shield.

Neat idea. Very similar to the Madstad windshield bracket for Stroms. It ws almost unrideable without it because of head buffeting.

Man, this Spyder thing is getting to be a more expensive proposition every day!

roflmao .... I've been in motorcycling for a long time and have come to realize that the bike is just the starter kit!!;)

Spyder Creed

What you need you get.
What they make you buy.
What they don't have, you make.
What you see, you want.
What you make, you show.
What is good, you need.
What you need you get...oh....

Hehe, yeah I know. I made the mistake of adding up the additions to the Strom that I'd made & when I got to $3k I quit adding. :yikes:

this is great info...not much of a windshield guy either...frankly, I think most of them ruin the looks of the spyder....had my Spyder a week now and had it on the highway a few times and the wind force and wind noise is crazy at times...Colorado is a windy state and going 70mph is about all I can handle!! Maybe this will be my answer....I am still waiting for them to come up with a mirrored out/chromed windshield like I have on my Skidoo snowmobile by Cobra....

Hate to throw water on this, but since the company is Canadian, will the replacement shield be DOT approved and labeled, so it is legal in the US?
