Fuel Filter Replacement

Is it really necessary to replace the fuel filter at 19K miles? I figure I must take off a lot of Tupperware to get to it on my 2013 RT Ltd to just do this. God forbid there is a way to get to it from under the seat unless there is something I don't know. I don't know that I've ever replaced one in any car I've had and fill up at stations that pump a lot of fuel.

On my 15 it is every 30,000 miles or 5 years. I don't understand why would a 13 be any more frequent? I know it is a different engine, but about the same amount of fuel is going through them.:dontknow:
It will be interesting to see what others know about this!

Go on-line to a Parts fiche' and see where it is on your Spyder.............but I agree with above about the mileage ....Mike :bbq:

I did not do mine on my 998 RTS at my 19K service.

But gas is SoCal is very good quality. So in the end it will depend on your gas you get.

I plan on doing mine at my 28K service.

It seems like a little something to get the dealers extra work. Manual does say to change it at 19K but I think 30 is more reasonable.

I changed mine it was on the right side. Not hard at all.

The 998 engine is pretty simple and straightforward, but 1330 is more difficult.

You can get the gas filter at Napa part # 3095. $4.00 you have to remove upper right cover under the right mirror

This is 2012 setup but a 2013 can't be too much different. I waited until 30K miles without issues. If you want to change it, pull off right side panels until you gain access. You just have to work around the canister a bit. And use Oetiker clamps, not worm gear clamps. If the motor has been recently run, pressure in that line will be about 50#.

Fuel or any other filter replacement is a crap shoot.
If you feel lucky then wait until 50K to do it.
On the other hand a plugged fuel filter could end in a nice long walk or an expensive tow as I doubt anyone does roadside Spyder fuel filter replacements.
If you are confident your gas is pristine, no rust particles in your tank or bits of fuel line flaked off when Jacque clapped the oetiker clamp on to the fuel line then I'd let it go.
I recently changed my filter at 34000 miles and was really shocked that I could barely blow through it.

Funny this topic comes up just as I too am looking at doing my 18,600 service and noticed the * about the fuel filter at 19K.

For such an inexpensive part, i figure what the H___ while I'm at it, may as well.

I don't need that possible issue creeping up on me while in route to SpyderFest.

Agree 100%. I have my 2012 RT torn down to do plugs, wires and some electrical changes and will do the fuel filter as well... it's just too cheap and easy not to do!
