Unfortunately like all Forums, erroneous comments some due to typos occur.

One needs to always check with COMPETENT authority when it comes to sizes, fits, and other then OEM equipment.

When in DOUBT . . . ASK.

There is certainly some of that ^^ :opps:

But tire manufacturers & the differences in their 'nominal sizes' don't really help either, despite the supposed 'standardisation' of these nominal sizes!! You really CANNOT rely solely on the nominal size printed on the sidewall when choosing alternative tires or on ANY of the Tire size comparison charts or software tables on the internet. Sure, they can be a start, but too many manufacturers use all sorts of different methods to arrive at the size they put on the sidewalls of their various tires & the nominal sizes are simply the closest standard size under whichever method they use, and they use a bunch of different methods!! I've seen different diameters &/or widths of over 25mm/1 inch on different brands of tires that had the same nominal size printed on their sidewalls & therefore should have been much closer in size than that!! And often those tires often show as being the same size on the internet tables, but in reality they can be significantly different sizes!!

Still, I for one have always been of the opinion that the biggest 'nominal size' tire that's likely to fit up front on the 2013 or later Spyders without mods is a 175/60R15; & have expressed here on SpyderLovers more than once my doubts that you could get a 65 profile 175 R15 tire to fit under the stock fenders without some touching or modification!!

So with all that in mind, when choosing alternative tires you really NEED to check/compare the physical rolling diameter, the width, or at least the number of rotations it takes to roll 1 km/mile (ie, the circumference) on any potential alternative tire to make sure it's not too different from the OE tire & is going to fit. Most tire manufacturers make at least one of those dimensions available in their technical specs for each different tire type & size they sell. Failing to do so means you stand a good chance of getting tires that just DON'T fit or WON'T work on your Spyder - & really, you should probably do that comparison when selecting alternative tires for any vehicle! ;)

I STATED THE 175/55 R15's WOULD FIT, BUT I'M TALKING ABOUT THE HANKOOK TIRES...
KEEP IN MIND, THE '65' VERSUS THE '55' ARE MUCH DIFFERENT IN HEIGHT (DIAMETER)... HERE, USE THIS TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc
PLUG IN YOUR TIRE SIZE, AND THE OEM SIZE, AND YOU'LL SEE THE DIFFERENCES IN DIAMETERS & WIDTHS....
GOOD LUCK...

I did all that research before deciding on the Kuhmo 175/60 tyres that Peter A recommended, and that several riders had already fitted, KB. They fit and don't touch......just.....so a 65 would definitely be a no no.

I don't remember seeing anyone recommending 175/65 when I was looking (not that I am questioning your statement.....just that I didn't see any). Unfortunately it could possibly be an accidental typo that you have hung your hat on.......bugger :dontknow:

For starters ..... FEDERAL makes a lot of different 175/65-r15 tires so more info would be helpful ....... I have General Altimax RT43 175/65-15 on my 2014 basic RT and they fit but are EXREMELY TIGHT ( and don't recommend them for the front )........ Maybe SpyderAnn will chime in on this .....She had both Evo's ( and didn't like them ) & now Formoza's ( and likes theses much better ) ....... Mike

It is beyond me why anyone would order the Federal Evo or Formoza in a size other than the OEM tire size. Can someone tell me why? I have run both the Evo and the Formoza in the stock size and they fit just like they're supposed to.

you can order them thru Walmart and they are cheaper in the 175's

I wasted half a day and the cost of mounting , balancing, remounting old ones. these do not even come close to fitting.

Look like Federal has stopped making this tire and have a new improved Formoza but not make it in this size anymore.so ordered two from this sight.
Thanks for your help
Kenn

Yeah, and there's another gotcha, Kenn. You find a tyre that people are actually running on their Spyder, and the tyre company has stopped making them and you have to start all over again. It's a bit of a minefield, especially as the size stamped on one tyre does not necessarily match the actual dimensions of another manufacturer's tyre with the same size stamp.

Good luck with these.....

Ann, Peter A has answered that in detail above. In brief, in places like Australia, we are limited in tyre choice. As such, we have to look at all brands/ models to see what fits the Spyder. One manufacturer's 165/55 does not necessarily have the same actual dimensions (usually width) as another manufacturer's 165/55 as they use different methods to determine their label size. Members have reported close to an inch difference in "actual" width on rear tyre from different manufacturers with the same label size.

That: is the $64,000 question. :dontknow:
There is certainly no need to go to a wider or taller tire.
If I knew enough to be able to guess about these things: I'd even be willing to think that a wider tire up front might (all other things being equal...) increase the chances of hydroplaning. nojoke

175/55 - 15 is a near exact dimensional match to the oem tire for both Continental Contiprocontact and Yokohama Avid S34FA.

We much prefer to sell and install top tier brand tires. Not chinese knock offs.

Why would anyone use anything but the front end alignment that came with the bike from the factoty or the factory autherized store?

Not that I want to start a pissing match here... nojoke
But it has been shown that the vast majority of Spyders benefit from being properly aligned...
Ann's question is valid: why buy an oversized tire for your bike? :dontknow:

Particularly one that doesn't fit...
