Fried Chicken Scramble (for you golfers out there)

SteveMac

MOgang Member & Monster Member,
Sunday, I won't be rYding.
I'll be participating in my other passion. Golf. And this is NOT your typical golf tournament...:ohyea:

My favorite tournament of the year is the "Fried Chicken Scramble" in Malden MO. I've been playing in this tourney for over 20 years. For you golfers, this is one laid back, end of season bash. We have a few Bloody Marys and tee off at 7:30 AM on a nine hole course. This is a two man scramble and there are 3 teams playing each hole and usually groups A and B on each hole. In all probably close to 50 teams.

We play 27 holes and we won't be done until after 6:00 PM. That's right the tourney lasts over 10 hours. It isn't for the faint of heart or for the very serious golfer!

Twenty years ago, it was named something else (I can't even remember) the tournament was so packed and took so long to play, that people began packing lunches and bringing because the small municipal course allowed that. The name "Fried Chicken Scramble" was born. This thing has grown over the years until folks have built very custom rigs for their golf carts and some even pull smokers, (yes, smokers), and BBQ grills, cooking ribs, butts and chicken behind their golf carts! We also pull two wheel lawn trailers with coolers loaded with adult beverages. Oh, and also throw the lawn chairs in as well, because on some holes, you may wait as long as a half hour just to tee off!

But the players are very satisfied to sit around eating, drinking and making fun of each other when a bad shot is hit. The smell of BBQ drifts all over the course and everyone has a blast for one of the last tourneys of the year. If you want pressure,,, tee off on a Par5, trying to blast one out there with a dozen guys just waiting to mock you for your failures!! Fun stuff.

I usually take the Monday after off work to recover, but I have my two right hand people out that day so I have to be there. Wish me good health and no major hangover...

Sounds like fun if you like to eat, drink and play golf:2thumbs:..................I'm only up for one out of three:roflblack:.

Jim it was a great day and I'm none the worse for wear today. yeah.,,,

Here is a pic of the guys.

Guy on the left, Deano, I've known since first grade. My partner this day. Diesel truck salesman.

Guy second from left, Chuck, is a gearhead and gun nut. Good mechanic, friend and golfer.

Guy in the middle with the beard is S'Kenny. The way he answers his phone is "this is Kenny" but it all runs together and sounds like S'Kenny. Owns a distributing company and been a friend for a long time. We used to work at the same exhaust shop back in the 80's. I ended up owning that shop from 83-93.

The overweight but still attractive guy (LOL) in the Black shirt is yours truly. Golfer and Spyderlover SteveMac.

Guy on the far right is "Maynard" long story there. But I've known him for years too. In fact he bought and rebuilt the Honda XL 350 from me that I wrecked back in 1979. Network admin.

Finally the guy taking the pic and you can't see is Shanle. He owns a body shop and is another good buddy. Just picture the singer Toby Keith and you'll have a pretty close image.

Lots of fun, drink and food.

Anyway, it was a great day for my other passion. Golf.

Just thought I'd share!

The team we were paired with made a 10' putt on the very last hole to finish first in our flight. We ended up tied for 2-3 spot. That putt the other team made cost us $100 each in prize money!!
But it was fun anyway. We got our entry fee back and a little more. So we played golf all day for free. And yes, we were in one a lower flight. We aren't what you would call "Championship Players" :roflblack:

I would love to play in a tournament like that. Maybe you should use the Spyder to haul the coolers with? Or hook up one of those BBQ grills to it. That would be cool.
