For those with Juice Box Pro... Need feedback

About ready to order one. Installed the Kewl Metal Air intake to free up room in the engine bay and to terminate my oil catch can into...

I called Lamont today to ask him a quick question in regard to how the intake seals to the throttle bodies, and he convinced me that with the intake I'd be running perhaps too lean even with the stock pipe and should consider the JB or JB Pro to adjust things.

For those that have either Juice box, what has your experience been with your setups? Specifically looking for those that eliminated their stock airbox, and are running stock pipe... but will take all advice.

For the Juice Box Pro....did you download the base maps, or did you make your own? Did you pull the plugs after every run to check for proper mixture?

As for my first short ride with the intake... Holy cow... That thing is stupid loud at full on throttle. Like I said, I wanted the intake to make maintenance easier for getting at that forward plug, and though my catch can was working, I didn't like having to screw with it now and then like I had to when my O2 sensor was kaput.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Dan,

With each update, I think BRP has made the bike run more rich...how do I know this?

Well, when I first got my JB, I had the settings quite high, as the bike was running really lean...

Then, presto, chango, after the first update, I had to pull the numbers back a little across the board or else I got lots of exhaust popping...

Then I got it all figured out...was getting great mileage (about 33-35mpg), and then, presto, chango, got the second update...

I've had to seriously pull the numbers back again...due to the fact that the bike was originally very lean, I think BRP really richened it up...

The JB settings on my bike are now very low, but the settings still make a huge difference. I had to really drop 2 and 4 back as together, I was getting significant popping when I was coasting in 4th gear and I hit the throttle. I have now backed it off enough so that I don't think I get that anymore...if I do, it is very rarely...

I don't know how much better the JB pro is...but the JB for my purposes is still really nice and does make a big performance difference...even more so after the 2 updates as BRP has helped us with the performance of the bike...

Oh, I have the green filter and the hindle...

Here's my take......

Without decent maps for your setup the Pro is overkill.

Running the stock pipe with that intake is kinda nuts...

I'd go with a regular JB and then add the O2 Mod... works great for me.

Dan,

"Running the stock pipe with that intake is kinda nuts..." >>>>WACKYDAN

:D

As I noted, I wanted easier access to the motor/plugs, and wanted to terminate the vent to the throttle bodies again. PLUS... I got the intake used with only 30 miles on it from the previous owner who didn't like the noise.

So.. yeah.. I still have the granny pipe which will be going to the Hindle in short order if I land this new job.

I'm calling Evan tomorrow to see if he has the regular JB... as I'm not sure the pro is needed either but that is all he has, and he takes paypal which is where my slush fund is at the moment. ;)

EDIT: I just read the install directions for the JB and now I see it plugs into the o2 sensor harness.... So my musings below are utter crap except to make me wonder why you need the o2 modifier if you have a JB... that seems overkill.

So.. One more thing. Some like the O2 modifier and some prefer the stock O2 sensor... Made me think of the following question.

If the stock O2 sensor is on the bike with a JB installed, does the computer try to fight the JB? ie; the sensor is reporting the bike running richer than normal factory map and the computer in turn is making adjustments counter to what the JB is trying to do? Does the O2 Modifier simple present the computer with a constant "Null" value so that the JB settings can really be tweaked?... I would tend to think that you would still want the stock O2 sensor for when days are hotter/cooler, for when you are at sea level versus mountains,etc...

The JB does not have the capability to enrich the mixture everywhere. The O2 modifier helps enrich one of the areas the JB is unable to. The JB PRO may eliminate this but not much feedback yet....

Many of us have found the combo of the JB and the O2 mod to make this bike run GREAT.... plus you don't have to worry about when your O2 sensor will go bad and cause all kinds of grief.

Confirmed the JB pro does indeed allow you to tweak the mixture everywhere in the range... So the extra cost of the pro is cheaper than the old JB+ O2 Mod.
