• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. For the Spyder Experts - Need Help !

Driving in group for the first since I bought my 2011 Spyder RT Limited. While riding today, I was informed that my headlights (Running lights) were flickering at highway speed. Here is exactly what is happening at highway speed:

So if I have my:

1) Low Beam headlight ON (Always On) ----> Both headlights flicker (they both change intensity at the same time)

2) High Beam headlight ON -----> Both headlights DO NOT flicker

3) Low Beam headlights ON & Fog Lighths ON ------> Both headlights and Fog Lights flicker

4) High Beam headlights ON & Fog Lights ON ------> ONLY Fog Lights flicker

Note: When I say flicker, both lights are changing intensity at the same time !

Any ideas where I should start with this issue before I have to go to the dealer?

Much appreciated ! :banghead:

This might sound simple,
But i'm going to say your headlights are set Too high.

They don't really flicker, they just appear to. It is an artifact of the narrow projector beams. In daylight, if you are looking from much off dead center, the beam dims or disappears, as it is not directed at your eye. On low beam, with the shutter lowered, this line of sight has to move very little to make the filament disappear. The bouncing of the light weight Spyder as it hit the bumps makes the beam bounce slightly and seem to appear and disappear. Motorcycle headlights do the same thing, especially the vintage bikes. Adjusting the headlights (usually downward) helps. Foglight adjustment can be done, too, on an RS, but isn't readily done on an RT. The easiest solution is to just use high beams all the time in the daytime.

Don't know what to tell you on the fog lights but you only have one bulb and a shutter that covers about half of it when it's on low beams, the flicker is the light showing more because of the bumps in the road. On high beam the shutter is all the way up so it won't matter.

The high beams and low beams are worked with a shade that drops down, when the bike hits bumps in low beam mode the shade bounces a bit, when in high beam mode the shade is locked in up position. Some folks drive in daylight with high beams on because of this. May be that lights are aimed up a bit too high, but the shape of the lense used for the lights can tend to bend the light and make it seem like they are dimming.

Thanks everyone ! I am happy to know that I do not have an electrical issue with my Spyder. I will adjust the headlights.

:yes::clap:

I've had people tell me the same thing. I would even notice it when following trucks where I could see my headlights in their bumper or tailgate. I saw the lights flicker and thought something was wrong. But yes, with every little bump it looks like your lights just flickered.

Like Lamont said, just run with high beams during the day.:thumbup:
