I have about 2800 miles on the SE5 since August 8th. And only one front fender tip light has failed. I replaced it via instructions from this wonderfule website in about a minute. Changed over to the yellow bulbs and they look sharp.
Anyways, been reading alot from everyone about their SE5's. I think BRP has come up with a real winner, and the additional spyderlovers on this site are proof of that.
Well my wife and I are going on our first roadtrip, about 800 miles in 4 days minimum. (who knows what detours we'll take). The itinerary is Kansas City, to Branson, to Hot Springs, AR, to Mena, AR and the Scenic Byway along a mountain ridge road into Oklahoma and then start back to Lake of the Ozarks before home. Now the scarry thing is (for me) knowing that I'm going to rely on this bike, rain or shine, etc.. to get us everywhere. Not alot of dealers around to help if something fails.
I have had only one time the SE5 went into limp mode, it was when I was letting my wife drive on a highway, I was on back and we had addional weight behind the rear with a strapped on cargo bag. Now I weigh 220, wife 150, and the luggage behind me was about 25 lbs. It was windy and when my wife gunned it into the wind on a steep hill and the weight must have lifted the front wheels enough to cause the VSS fault.. and we went into Limp Mode. Of course wife thought she had done something wrong, I never knew what Limp Mode would do, but we finished the hill climb, pulled over. I shut off the bike, removed the key and restarted, everything was fine.
Well now we are travelling with a maxed out front trunk at 35lbs, both of us, and the cargo carrier on back again, at about 20 lbs. Test run tonight showed no VSS faults, but we are loaded.
Definitely, worried about the weight, and this winter thinking that Lamonster's pick of a Bushtec trailer is a good idea for Xmas. Will keep everyone posted.
