• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. First long distance ryde..

Yesterday, took Spyder to Desert Dog in Fountain Hills AZ for 3000 mi checkup.

Round trip came in at 289.7 miles. Not a terrifically long ride, but my first long distance on Spyder.

Temperatures varied from 34 around Sonoita Az to 83 in Florence area. Just gotta love the desert in springtime.

It was also my first experience in heavy city traffic (in Tucson). Definitely kept the awareness factor higher than normal. But good for the confidence!
I had forgotten how bad exhaust from some vehicles can smell.

The folk's at Desert Dog did their usual superb job on Spyder. They are a great group. Well worth the ryde.

I'm now positive that a new seat is a requirement. The stock seat and my butt are not a match made in heaven!

What a Blast......

 Congrats on the long distance ride. 300 miles (+/-) is nothing to sneeze at.

There are a few good options out there for replacement seats. I have a Russell saddle and really like it. Others have had good success with Corbin. There are even more choices out there if you shop.

:congrats: Glad to hear you got a good long ryde in. I switched to the BRP Comfort Seat, and it is working very well for me, especially since I am now under 200 pounds at 5'9".

Congrats on your first long ride. It didn't take us too long either before we knew we needed a different seat for the long haul. Both my husband and I have Russell Day-Long seats. You can put it in the search feature and see the seats. Each was made specifically to each of us. I love it and feel like I can ride forever. We also both have the Madstad adjustable windshield and have nothing but rave reviews on that as well.

I decided to get some links for you:

I have noticed an exhaust smell while riding, & assumed it was from other vehicles around me. I'm beginning to wonder if it could be the bike's own exhaust I smell. It might be that there is a vacuum pulled just behind the windshield that pulls in air from the rear to fill. If that is the case, it might be my exhaust.

Any thoughts on this?

Exhaust smell

I also have detected an exhaust smell on my RT. If you look at your rrunk after a ride you will notice that dust sticks to it much better than the rest of the bike, indicating to me the accumulation of exhaust residue. At least it is not chain oil that used to accumulate on your back in the "old days.

Can't beat the ...

Russel seat for comfort. This is a pix of the one on her Spyder. Expensive but worth every penny. Can't wait until I can get mine. /Ken

Could be the Y gasket's, usually you can hear them. Just changed mine, with the G/wing gasket's. But i get exhaust smell with F1 shield with the wings on even with the new gaskets. When Take the wings off the smell is gone.
