There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. FIRST INSPECTION

The book says first inspection should be done at 10 hours or 625 miles, whichever is first. I have just 345 miles but 11 hours already so guess I’ll take it in now. Just wanted to pass along because I didn’t know about the hour requirement so maybe others could find this information useful as well.

I don't know of anyone else that has done this. Early on, BRP ran out of oil filters, and our dealer, among others, said to just ride it until the filters came in. We had about 850 miles, and over 20 hours) on ours by the time I located a filter. Dealer did not say a thing. The chart does not mention hours, only mileage.

I had 850Miles and about 15 hours on mine when i got my first service done. I would hold off till you hit the 625 mile marker

:agree:Had the same situation as Scotty now filters O rings and Crushwashers are readily available:thumbup:
My dealer still didn't stock an O-ring this week. Had to order it, but I changed filter w/o changing the ring, which was new last time. I'm going to have to remember to stock up ahead of time.

I had 1100 miles on mine and nothing was said. they just told me not to push it that much farther.

My dealer told me to wait until I had at least 800 miles. I had 1100 when I had my first service. Everything was fine nothing voided. The dealer said the service is recommended not required.

Did BRP change the Owner's Guide? I don't see anything in mine about 10 hours or 625 miles. It says break in for first 1,000 km or 625 miles and first service at 1,000 km or 600 miles.

My operators manual has on page 84 some thing called the 10 hour inspection and it even has a spot for the dealers signature and date. By the way I'm passing on this info because my dealer also told me 600-800 miles and never said a word about 10 hours. :dontknow:

Since you have an SE and mine is an SM, it's obvious that we have different owner's manuals. SM has no mention of hours, just km or miles. Could it be that BRP wants an earlier inspection on the SE than the SM?

BRPjunkie, I think you’re right; it must be a SE5 thing. I waited 45 days rode for 2 now I have to wait again all day for first maintenance. It sure was hard giving back to the dealer so soon, seems like I’m always waiting on the spyder, but I guess we got to do what we got to do. It really is getting better and better as I ride…..can’t wait to get back out there tonight! :2thumbs:

At least in SC you will have many more good riding days ahead. October in MI means we are heading into the Spyder hibernation season except for the hearty souls who intend to prove that BRP made the Spyder look like a snowmobile so it could be riden in the winter.

First Inspection

I was unable to get scheduled for my first inspection until I had 1400 miles on my spider. They changed the oil and filter and did the famous "Inspections". It cost me $200 plus oil plus filter. Not certain what they did but it took only 40 minutes. Pretty steep shop charge.

regards,

Craig Clive

Tell me about it brother, I'm getting charged $250 and they say it take 2.5 hours!

I am still confused about the 625 mi/10 hour thing. That would mean you would have to average over 62.5 mph to reach the mileage before the hours were up. Quite unreasonable! I think most Spyder owners will probably average more like 30-35 mph, more only if they do a lot of freeway driving. To average 62.5 you would have to ride very hard indeed. My other concern is that the engine has not had sufficient time to break in, and shed the inevitable metal particles, etc. At the first service at 850 miles, our drain plug had a modest amount of shavings collected. Since then, there have been almost no shavings at all. If they changed my oil at a lousy 10 hours, I would change it again at 1,000-1,500, just to be safe. A needless expense and bother, in my opinion. If the SE5 is that fragile, what can the rest of its life be like?

NancysToy, you make some very good points especially that I’ll need an oil change probably at 1,500. I can’t explain why, but the operator’s manual is clear about the 10 hour inspection for my SE5. In fact, there is a dealer signature with date to sign off on in the book on page 84. I really doubt that waiting till 3,000 miles is wise after such a short break in. By the way, the cover of the operators manual says it’s SE5/SM5 so apparently BRP has modified there recommendation. :dontknow:

This is all very interesting. I was just at my dealer's on Saturday, and I asked him about the first service (SM5), and he told me at 1000 miles. I didn't question him at the time because I thought maybe I had misunderstood. Later on telling my husband, he asked me what the owner's manual says, which is 600 miles, but I thought I saw a post that said BRP has changed this? Perhaps my dealer knows this??
