• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Finally sold my 08 gs last night, a nice DR was buying for his wife to ride with him, he just bought a used road king. so my dilemma now is it took me almost a year to sell my bike and had to drop my price pretty low. why would i want to buy another spyder? dropping models and changing lineups, i dont trust that my return on investment will be there in 4 years. I understand you dont buy a bike to make money but i have never had such a hard time selling one ....

what should i do now???

It happens... :dontknow:
If you're buying bikes for their investment potential: buy Vincents, Excelsiors, and the pre-1953 Indians...
Otherwise: just enjoy the ride!

 Sorry...

My 2012 RT-S is still available! :)

sorry

sorry about your issues....
i posted my '09 RS on Craigs List and had no less than 5 people that wanted it... sold it within a few days for the asking price, that was back in Feb. of '15...
however, if you enjoy the open road, this is the price you have to pay to enjoy it... and it's like buying a car, drive it off the lot and you've already lost 25% of what you paid...
only you can make the decision - you either buy and ride, or sit and watch others ride...
best of luck on what you decide...

I guess that you should ask why you sold the other one. Personally, if I had to ask people here to convince me to buy another one, well, I guess I should be looking at buying something else.

As I see it...

Buying a motorcycle in this country is for the most part for fun and pleasure and the enjoyment of the ryde out in the open. Therefore one should do so with disposable income . One will never get their money back for the ryde or all the accessories added to it. Whatever you get back will be a good downpayment on the next one at best. How long it took to sell your ryde and how much you got for it is dependent on where you listed it and if your price was in the range for a used spyder of that year remembering that all the work and farkling does not up the value. Many take what they can off and sell it seperately... Glad you got her sold and good luck on your next venture. As for should you buy another one.....did the 08 give you what you wanted as far as the ryde and the fun factor....?

I still consider myself a newbie, but I have been riding 11 years, and have owned 14 bikes. Fortunately I have had great success in buying and selling. Until purchasing my 2014 RT and 2016 F3T, I have always bought used and either broke even or made money on the bike, after riding it for a while. For the 2014 RT, I purchased it at $5500 below sticker, which gave me a head start when it came time to sell. I also was able to get my F3T for about the same price below sticker. Therefore I hope to do well when it is time to switch up.
The key to a bike, or car is to purchase at a good price and ask a realistic price when the time to sell comes along. Even a new spyder purchase in september (if you shop around) should give you good resale in a couple of years when you decide to upgrade. Good Luck.

I know that you arent going to make money buying a bike and i do ride them to enjoy but i guess i am just worried that it will take a long time to resell if i get another spyder? never had this much trouble selling any of my other bikes thats all. i thought i was below asking price of all the dealers locally and even on craigslist in my area, maybe just didnt find the right person and next time will be different. maybe it was as simple as being a manual transmission ??

There's no doubt that the SE transmission will make the potential customer base larger...

But ride what YOU like, and let the rest get sorted out later!

I have never thought about not buying a motorcycle of my choice because the resale value was going to be low. Maybe I am going about it all wrong!!
I usually purchase the bike based on how comfortable I am going to be when riding, how much fun it will be, and how comfortable it is for my wife. Then we get out and ride the wheels off of it and put on as many miles as we possibly can, (also not a good idea for resale value) have as much fun as we can, and keep it rolling until it is worn out.

I can't even began to put a price on the pleasure it gives us when riding, how it makes our marriage stronger by spending more time together, lowers my blood pressure after a bad day, and how it puts a big smile on my wife's face!

I have been watching your selling dilemma from day one. You had the lowest price 08 GS on the board--and it did sit for a LONG time.

I gave up trying to sell the 2011 RT for the same reason. Was going to use it for a trade on a bigger/better :spyder2:. I had it priced at trade in--and there was not even one bite. Somebody missed out on a good one here. Linda is still driving it and we will probably end up running it into the ground or it will go at fire sale prices when its estate sale time.

What should you do? That is something only you can decide.

The only one gonna make money on your used bike is the dealer where you take it in on another.
