There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Finally got to see the 2014 RT up close!

Went to the Progressive Motorcycle Show yesterday morning at the DC Convention Center, got to see and sit on the 2014 RTs.

Obvious first impression: Dang, they are nice.

General second impression: I know they're show models, i.e. all polished-up and such, but I was very impressed with the fit and finish on the new bikes. I like the brushed metal look far more than the chrome (chrome is for Harleys and classic bikes, IMHO-- the brushed metal complements the high-tech look of the Spyders and meshes better with the sea of plastic tupperware). All the gadgetry is neat. The comfort seat seemed REALLY comfortable-- it might finally be one worth keeping, you might never want to replace it with an aftermarket seat. Plenty of room for both me and the GF, who desperately wants me to buy one now :joke:

Disappointing third impression: none of the models on the floor had either the Tri-Axis adjustable handlebars or the BRP backrest, the *two things* I most wanted to try out for myself. Oh well, hopefully my dealer will have a model equipped with them.

Terribly awful fourth impression: These things have gotten too expensive for me at MSRP, especially knowing how much I'd inevitably spend on aftermarket mods. I mean, fully equipped with every option I'd want on a Spyder RT, the 2014 is more expensive than our SUV, and nowhere near as practical.:wrong:

That said, I'm hoping that in a couple of years I'll not only have a good amount saved up, but also have plenty of prior-model year Spyders available. Given what everyone is saying about their 2014s, barring some unforeseen mechanical disaster lurking in the new drivetrain awaiting to be discovered in the near future, I imagine the 2014s are going to sell QUITE a bit. So, maybe I'll aim for a 2015 at the end of the model year.

(Added bonus: maybe we'll learn by then whether there's something new for the RS bikes as well... always something better around the corner!)

P.S. I also saw the yellow and black 2014 RS. After the orange and black RS-- the Halloween edition is my favorite all-time color combo on *any* Spyder-- the yellow & black is the next sharpest, looks excellent in person.

Hi Dave,
You just answered a question that I hadn't yet aked: Do they use the same bikes in all of the shows across the Country?
Apparently not...
The NYC Show had a Sliver RT Limited that had both; the bars AND backrest, and a Cognac RT Limited with just the backrest
They also had a Base model in Black...

But they all had the Frunk release button! :D

Well..!!

looks like you were looking forward to seeing this new model. You have a good position and hope you find the one best suited for you. When you can test ryde the differents years and models you will find this helpful in deciding on which and when....good luck and thanks for your review..!!

Dave, I was there yesterday and the silver Platinum Limited with the Burgundy seat had the backrest and it folds down to allow the passenger easy access. They also had the tri-axis adjustable handlebars on this model or the Cognac limited.

These new features on the 2014 is making it very tempting to want one.

I was there today also and sat on the Limited w/ Burgundy seat. I wasn't familiar with the adjustable bars, so I was kind of surprised when their movement reminded me of my old rowing machine! :yikes: But I like......a lot! I'd better stay away from these 2014s or there might soon be a 4-sale sign on my wing/sidecar rig! :D

Mydealer did not have a backrest when i picked up my 14 RTS and after two days of riding i am going to second think getting one until i get to test one out, they may be too thick but may not be, i will try one before i buy one, may get onenfor use when i ride alone, who knows .

Okay, now I feel like an idiot. :banghead: I took a walk around all the bikes and I saw neither the backrest nor the handlebars (although, now that I think about it, I might not have known what the handlebars really looked like in person :joke:).

No biggie, I'll see 'em eventually.

As for a test ride... that's a risky, potentially expensive proposition. When you pet stray dogs they tend to follow you home!
