• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Final word on larger rear tire?

First let me introduce myself as I am new to the spyder world. First my name is James, I own a vehicle wrap company in kansas city. I'm a huge car guy, currently own a 700rwhp toyota supra, 850rwhp fox body mustang and a few other (more boring vehicles). I recently decided to replace my harley with a rs-s, i took delivery of it friday (after a 1383 mile round trip to pick it up). I put over 100 miles on it the first day i got it home and i am loving it more every time i ride it! I've already spoken to aerocharger and hope to take delivery or my turbo kit within the next 30-45days.

So one to my question!! I have searched a couple spyder forums (including this one) and have seen mixed reviews on running a larger rear tire on the back of the spyder. I rear on thread that one person relocated the rear speed sensor to one of the front wheels to get away with it, but it didn't sound like he had actually done much riding since the swap. I read a thread on this forum where one guy put on a larger rear tire and after 1 min or riding he got a trouble light.

Any help on how to get this to work would be great! I think the spyder would be a much more enjoyable ride on the freeway with a little less RPM, not to mention the huge traction benefits from running a larger tire.

Thanks!
James

Pics of my spyder, stock for now. We will call these pics BEFORE! :) I have removed the rear fender/belt cover. Looks so much better without it IMO.

WELCOME to SPYDERLAND bro

I bet your going CRAZY, If you want to have a good trip, come up to Council Bluffs on Wed nights, QUAKER STEAK and LUBE bike night, AWSOME TIME:clap:

Lots of ppl have mounted larger fronts
But there isn't a lot of room in the swing arm for much more diameter
I put a smaller 225/45 on the front and back
No problems with traction control and. The circumference difference is about 5% as I remember

welcome

A taller tire is not going to do anything for you traction wise but it will drop your rpms. You would have to match the fronts height wise or move the rear sensors to the front. I have done this but it should work. When they dyno the Spyder they pull the sensor off the rear so it reads the same as the front (not moving).

EVEN TRADE

My 09 Phantom Spyder 1000 miles for your TOY. I know Ill be getting the bad end of the deal but I think I will be able to manage through!!

Thanks for the feedback so far, hrmm. I think i will just go with a stock sized mickey thompson d/r II for now.

Lamonster- A taller tire will absolutely make a difference with traction. "Rollout" is the key to traction and actually makes as much or more of a difference than width.

LOL, I'm good on the trade for now. I really do like the looks of the phantom, and if they would of offered a SE5 version i would of went that route for sure!!

I don't know how much taller you plan on going on this 90hp machine but there's not much weight on the rear of the Spyder so I think it's going to be hard to measure any difference in traction but who knows. :dontknow: Even if, you still have to deal with the VSS and TCS.

I hope you don't plan on riding that tire on the street. The Spyder comes stock with an affinity to hydroplaning. Any kind of moisture at all coupled with the very poor wet traction of that tire and you're going to be having serious issues.

I'm sure it will improve your 1/4 times but the Spyder is not an impressive track machine no matter what tire you put on the back.

I rode home in the pouring rain today
It's like having a asphalt sprint car
Keep enough counter steer in and the nanny sleeps while you three wheel drift across a couple lanes

Good luck with the rear tire. I am curious to see pictures of what you have decided on. Pictures of the Supra would be greatly appreciated as well!!!!!

Car guy here as well

Why not just unplug ALL the wheel speed sensors??Tie them off to the side and go. They all would read the same that way. Just loose the traction control and abs. But' that danged traction control is pain in the butt anyway!! Every time you hit a little gravel its burp burp burp. As far turning one of these guys over. Well lets put it this way. I have really hit a few corners HARD on purpose. Let me tell you this much. If you turn one over. You really have to be doing something and I don't think all the traction control or ABS in the world is gonna do you much good. :dontknow:

It also affect the DPS boost and makes for a harrowing ride at higher speeds with very twitchy steering.

How bad?? Have you tried it or know someone who has?? Just curious I'm seriously considering it. Just be better to know some other fool done did. I always feel a Lil better when I know I'm not the first Ginny pig :D
