Yesterday I had to honor of participating in the funeral of an American Hero. Her name is Martha Reid Farris and was 92 years old.
Martha was a leader and trailblazer. She was in the first platoon of female Marines ever to graduate Marine Corp boot camp at Paris Island. The year was 1943, right in the middle of WWII. She stayed in the Marine Corp for six years.
After the Marine Corp, Martha became the first female Police Officer in Rock Hill, SC.
Besides being tough, Martha was a loving mother. She raised two fine boys, one of which is one of my Rolling Thunder brothers.
At her family's request, Martha was escorted by twenty Rolling Thunder and Patriot Guard motorcycles (two Spyders) and ten Police cars.
Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard, Marine Corp League, American Legion, VFW, Rock Hill Police Department, and several dignitaries participated in Martha’s farewell.
