Chrome vs White:
So you want to paint your BRP saddlebag chrome hinge… here we go:
First you need to know that the easiest way is to remove the cover. That is the part with the lock.
Looking at the opened bag from the side shows you the retaining nuts, the bolts are on the inside:
They are hard to get to with the fabric in place so you should remove the hex head bolts in the following order:
Remove 1 and 2 with a small hex head equipped socket wrench.
Pull back the fabric and secure the nut on 3 with a combination wrench and remove bolt 3 with a small socket wrench fitted with a hex head. They put some sort of Loctite on the bolt so you will need the leverage of the socket wrench. (Don’t worry about it coming loose after you assemble it again. There is enough residue that it won’t go anywhere.)
Secure nut 4 and remove bolt 4.The cover is now free of the bag.
Remove bolts 5 and 6 and the metal chrome plated hinge is in your hand. These two bolts have washers, keep track of them.
Paint that ugly chrome thing any way you want.
(NOTE: reassembly is not the exact opposite of disassembly. Don’t try to put the hinge on the bag cover first. Doing so will only result in loud swearing and possibly a mental breakdown)
Push bolts 3 and 4 back through the fabric and secure the mount plate with the nuts. Don’t tighten them down all the way. They need to be snug but you need to align the cover.
Lay the cover down over top of the hopefully not chrome anymore hinge piece and secure bolts 1,2, 5 and 6.
Lift the cover into place and adjust the alignment as needed.
When things are lined up, lower the cover and secure nuts and bolts 3 and 4.
