F3-S performance rear tire - can I run a Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS?

Had a thought the other night (occasionally dangerous, and usually expensive!): could I run a Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS extreme performance summer tire on the F3-S? Comes in a factory-sized 225/50R15. Here’s my thoughts/reasons. Wanting a tire that will hook up VERY well for the couple times a year that I visit the drag strip. Plus, just about every ride, I break the tire loose a couple times in second gear on ‘spirited’ take-offs. Current rear is a Rikon Raptor, size 215/60R15. This Potenza is very capable for auto cross applications, but is also a bona-fide highway tire. Low temperature use warnings are moot, as I live in Deep South Texas. Its UTQG code is 200 A A, so rated for 40K miles. Obviously that’s just normal driving miles, but with the Spyder’s low weight, would hope to get 15K or more out of it, even running it hard. I do take a yearly week-long, 1,500+ mile trip, but this is an actual high-performance highway tire, so think all should be good for 75mph freeway usage, as well. This tire is an OK wet tire, but so far have only got caught out in the rain once in two plus years. I know the $238 price tag is kinda high, but if it hooks up well and lasts me a couple years, it’s all good. Thoughts?

Yes, you can! Run at about 18 psi +/- maybe a max of 2 psi it should work very well for you! But rather than repeating what's already been asked, answered, discussed, and pretty much thrashed to death numerous times...

Please, ALWAYS search first, BEFORE starting a new thread, and even if you don't read all of the existing threads to see if they answer your question, at least have a glance at the titles to see if you are asking a question that's been asked and answered already - maybe even asked and answered more than once!! After all, the Forum's been around since about 2007, so there's not really all that much that hasn't at least been discussed!! :shocked:

If you want to add to the knowledge base &/or share your related experience on the subject, there's nothing wrong with adding to an older thread; altho if you want to ask a new question that isn't really on the subject of that thread, you'll need to make a bit of a judgement call about using the old thread or starting a new thread specifically for your new question - but if it's more of the same or even very similar PLEASE USE THE EXISTING THREAD - it really doesn't help having many (or even many many!) threads all asking/discussing them same basic question, like we already do for those 'Which tire?'; 'Will this tire fit?'; 'Can I run car tires on a Spyder!'; or all the other tire, oil, &/or tire pressure threads! :banghead: :bdh:

So in this instance, all you needed to do was type 'Potenza' into the Search field, up toward the top right of the page; tick the box marked 'Search Titles Only' in the drop-down list that'll appear; submit your search; then read the thread titles to see which thread you think might help/be of most interest to you - and if all those starting new threads do the right thing and briefly ask their question, or at least state the reason for the thread in their titles, it should be pretty obvious which threads are most applicable to your particular needs/wants!! :thumbup:
