• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Engine Oil usage

Two weeks ago I brought the oil level in my :f_spider: up to the FULL mark. After a trip to Punta Gorda and Lake Placid I had a total of 470 miles since the fill-up of the oil. Checked the oil level today, it is about 1/4 to 1/3 the way down from FULL. Is this acceptable oil usage. I only have 2100 miles on the odometer.

The best way to figure out how much oil it used is to fill it back to the full and measure exactly how much you put back in, Just trying to figure it by the dipstick isn't very accurate, It's akin to figuring gas mileage by the gas gauge.

They have a tendancy to blow the oil into the airbox at the full mark until it drops closer to the add mark, then it should slow down quite a bit. Not sure why this is happening on a dry sump oil system, but many have the same problem and have made a catch can or put a small piece of foam in the crankcase breather going to the airbox, do a search for some older posts on this. Reach through the hot air vent and feel the underside of your airbox and see if its oily, there is a little hole there were it will seep out if this is your problem. Also check your oil sender on the same side, but on the bottom of the motor, they will sometimes leak also, mine did.

Mine had that problem. I found that the oil was going into the airbox & into the throttle body(TB). This can be fixed by adding a dump can or a PVC filter. I added a K&N air filter model CM9908 and it's one of best upgrades that I have done so far. I made my own PVC filter, if you want the specs. PM me. I have not used any oil after I installed the PCV filter.

Engine Oil usage.

Thanks guys. I peeked into the air box one day when I had the tupperware off, and it looked like some oil was indeed in the air box. I have read about this issue here, guess it is time to put the foam in the line or some other method of reducing oil in the intake/air box.

I always take my spyder up the road for a mile and back before i check the oil this warms it up and you get a good reading.Twice I took it into the dealer for work and they added oil to it and when I got home it was about a 1/2 half inch over fill.Just warming it up idling wont give a good reading [just my opinion]
