• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Embarrassing but SCARY!!!

As most of you know my by now I am a wheelchair bond spyder ryder. So I have to say that taking out my spyder today was the best after a long time of cold weather. It was about 64 degrees here in Brooklyn NY. And after filling up my baby and riding her for most of the day was a great time for me. But as I decided to take a trip to the old neighborhood and getting much attention as always, I stopped for a bit and take a riders break. While many were questioning me about the ride and treating me like a celebrity it all came to a stop when I decided to turn on my spyder and head back home. At first I didn’t think much of it but when I tried to start her up she was giving me “CHECK TRANSMISSION” message across the screen. This was after awhile of her sitting there off. I also notice that when turning the key to the ON position the transmission light was on and she would not start. I checked everything as I always do from seeing if the cut off switch was off too the parking breaking being released. I would turn the key on and off and still nothing. I know I was not doing anything wrong because after each attempt of turning the key and pressing the M Button in the consol as she is always required to go on. But nothing, this is where the panic kicked in. I was more scared than embarrassed. Every one was looking at me as I continued to try to start her up with all the basic steps needed to start her. TURNING THE KEY ON, PRESSING THE M BUTTON, REALEASING THE PARKING BREAK AND HOLDING BREAK AND TRYING TO START HER UP. And nothing! Now let me give you a little mental picture here. A wheelchair person stuck with a 15k machine that won’t start and no wheelchair with me. How would you feel? As much as I love my spyder anger was starting to set in, as I would beg and plead for her to start with out cursing her out :cus:. Finally after letting her sit for on off for few minutes on a last attempt I notice the normal click sound when turning the key to the on position and NO transmission message on the screen. I thank god released the parking break and she stared up. I was so happy that I put her in 1st and headed home. She gave no more troubles while riding and when I got in my drive way I parked her up I turned her off and put her away. I didn’t want to know what would happened if I tried again so I let her be. What I figured is that she was scared of the crowd and was intimidated. But on the serious side can any one tell me what happened why this happened. I mean I don’t rider her hard and I don’t think I am a bad shifter for my first roadster. So what should I have checked I am talking her to a good dealer in New Jersey that I made friend with from the NY Motorcycle Show and plan to tell them what happened to me what else can I have them look at just in case I know I take the risk of riding with out the chair but I some times cant resist when I get those days when the weather is telling me to take her out so I just jump on and head out. But now I am scared of this happing to me if not something worse. I don’t want to regret ever getting my :spyder: for it has been a long lifetime dream of mines. So can anyone share with me what had happened? :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

Firstly, I'd never use the M button on the console, but only on the bars. Did the Press M button message go off when you were trying to start her? There have been issues of the console M button getting stuck. Try only using the one on the bar next time.

I would contact the dealer and see if they can find out what happened. (Look up the fault codes, etc.) I wouldn't chance something like that being a "one time" event, especially if I was worried about being stranded somewhere.

i also have a handicap..im not in a chair but its difficult for me to walk real long distances etc...so i feel ur pain...i suggest 1st to take it back to the dealer..then find a buddy to ride with so that if anything does happen u wont be stranded....heck its safer for able bodied people to ride together.....and if u do feel the urge to venture out alone, at least have a cell phone with u...good luck...and good to hear ur riding:thumbup:

cell phone

is always the best tool to have ..... and i'm not in your shoes but first thing is try and relax shut key off let it sit a bit then retry .... never had any issue with mine but past experience with different vehicles getting upset or mad makes you not think straight .... go over your steps ..... and try the button on left side of handlebars instead of "M" dash button ... then saves you from leaning over ...
good luck brother:coffee:

We had exactly the same problem that you described with my wife's SE5. As you described we let it set about 10 min and everything was back to normal. It has about 100 mi since the incident with no further issues. I have not taken it to the dealer yet but will soon as it is close to the service interval. I'll post what they find if anything.
