• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. ELKA noises

Hi! I got a pair of ELKA plus one front shocks put on at spyderfest. Everything seemed fine until going home & stopped overnight at brother's house. When I got on spyder for next leg of the trip home, the front wheel area made a loud screeching noise when I turned the handlebars to back out. For the first minute or two it made screeching protests when turning corners. But after awhile no further noises. Then after being parked for the night, this noisy process would begin again each morning or after prolonged sitting while at work. No handling problems with it or instability in steering. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas? What did you do? Thanks for all tips!

Let's see..!!

not likely the shocks are making/causing the screeching noise. Sounds like it is in the brakes. Check the pads and disc's. Don't know if the wheels were pulled to replace the shocks not common or if there may be a bearing problem. What year, model and mileage..?? :dontknow:

This is going to sound stupid...
Did it only make the noises when the bike was motionless and you were turning the bars, or even while it was moving?

I'm just asking that because I wonder if it just may have been the nature of the surface that you were parked on... :dontknow:

I had not thought of the brakes, but thanks for the tip- I will have dealer check on these as well. Brakes do seem to be operating OK for now. Not sure if wheels were actually taken off for ELKA install or not. I have a 2012 RT with about 8500 miles on it. It was checked over before going to spyderfest- but looks like it needs it again. Other tips?

Not silly at all! Unfortunately, the noise has occurred while in motion and a couple of different surfaces, seems to occur only after bike has been sitting for awhile- and then not heard after it warms up a bit (all only after ELKAs were installed). Other tips?

Sounds like brakes or wheel bearings.

Jack the front up after it has been setting/cold and rotate each wheel. Check for brake noise. If nothing there. Check wheels for bearing free play.

Noise

From what your describing I would eyeball the immediate area surrounding the shock absorbers. I would bet that you find something very close to the SA assembly. After you start riding for the day the shocks are going into their running positions and everything up front goes into its running mode posture. When you park it at night everything relaxes and goes back into the parking posture. The difference in the two would be your noise source.

you are going to have fun finding this one, I bet!

Curiosity question for you. Are the coil springs balanced and set to equal each other?
