• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. My dumb question is : ? Whats the difference between the manual transmission and semi auto . As I have always thought of myself a little above average on intelligence :yikes: I would there for Assume it has to be for down shifting. ?????? I only say that as I have not seen a clutch.

The manual has a clutch and a foot shifter, just like any motorcycle you may have ridden. The semi-automatic allows you to shift with a thumb paddle, without having to decelerate or apply a clutch. It downshifts automatically, or you can downshift with the backside of the paddle.

Hope that helps.

The clutch. ..!!

its all about the clutch. The manual you shift with your foot using the clutch. The semi auto you paddle shift with your fingers no clutch lever involved. Like driving an old automatic car by putting it in low and then shfting to driver (some models had drive 1and 2). Myself I prefer the manual....:thumbup:

No such thing as a dumb question.

Differences:

:ani29:: About $1,500 bucks.
:ani29:: Manual--you do the shifting by pulling the clutch and using the foot for both up and down shifts. There are those that say the clutch is not needed--but I will defer that discussion to another thread.
:ani29:: Semi Automatic--shifting is accomplished with the left hand thumb for upshifts (the + button) and the left hand index finger (the - button). The semi (esse) needs to be upshifted by pushing the + button. The :ani29: will downshift by itself if no intentional downshift is made (the - button). Downshifts can also be made manually if you want to keep the :spyder2: in a slightly higher power range.

Have had both flavors here. Do not miss the clutch. Performance is the same and gas mileage is not affected--IMO.

Thank you the quick replies and thank you for answering my next dumb question without me having to ask about the millage difference if there was any.. lol...
I now have my insurance check from my latest crash/total thanks to the mail man and now I just got to find the best deal on a RT. I thought about a limited but I HATE CHROME with a purple passion as I don't want to clean and go I just want to gass and go ( I got that from my wife :bowdown: ) and i really dont need another gps but i do like the special. And now that i know about the transmission so i think ill go for the semi auto.

Again Thank you

I am an RT-S kind of person. Like them a lot. Everything but the chrome and the GPS.

I love my manual transmission but I am with you on not liking chrome. Look for an RTS 13 or newer as they have no chrome and look great. I prefer my wheels to be the color of brake dust, thank you very much! :roflblack:

A neurological problem recently prevents me from shifting with my left foot. As an almost 6 decade motorcycle rider, I thought I would really miss the manual transmission, but I don't miss it at all. The semi-auto paddle shifter is great! I can upshift with a touch of my thumb at the points I choose without letting off the throttle so when that need for acceleration attacks me, my RTL delivers. When I enter a lower speed limit, a touch of my index finger puts the RPM right where I want it. When I'm just cruising around town, I let the Spyder do the downshifting. I really like the SE-6.

By the way, I got the RT-L because my wife told me to, and I'm glad I did. I needed the GPS and I think most of the chrome trim is just chrome-looking plastic so it doesn't take any longer to clean than without it. It is definitely not like polishing the chrome on a Harley. I think the Limited package also included the fog lights and a few other doodads. The one I bought already had the comfort seat and that's a nice extra. I have a 2014 Satin Silver RT-L and really like the way the chrome accents the silver - but, of course, that's not everyone's cup of tequila. That's why they make different models. Whatever you decide, ENJOY!!!
